How much worst can he be than obama? Not much, I presume. First of all, he's smarter than obama (it doesn't take a genius to get a degree like obamas) second: he's wiser than obama. Right now what he's saying is light years away from any politician. He says it like it is. Kennedy during the cuban missile crisis didn't mince words with the soviets, that's what we need. I don't think any politician from any side comes close to him. What? You say he doesn't have experience? Did obama? See above for the answer.
Complete and utter unelectability
He's going to need to appeal to Republicans in power or else they will tear him apart, along with the democrats. They're either going to want a leader who aligns 100% with their views or a charismatic guy that can be a puppet. He is neither of those.
I think Republican establishment candidates line up like this:

1) Romney
2) Bush
3) Christie
4) Ryan
5) Graham
6) Rubio

Establishment will oppose everyone else from Carson and Cruz to Paul and Walker. If Carson is squeaky clean he might survive the establishment attacks, I think all the others have baggage that can be exploited.

None of them will beat Hillary if she runs....Mark it down.

Joe Biden could run and an establishment candidate won't win. Those 6 don't energize the base running as not the democrat isn't a winning strategy, the candidate needs ideas they believe and that energize the base, not I'll spend my first term trying to undo everything Obama did.

"Energizing the base" is a risk though when trying to get the independents though. Must be done the correct way.
There are a couple of issues that would give the GOP traction. Tax reform and term limits would be my first start.

You're are probably correct and that is a sad statement about the current political landscape when the Presidential election turns into a Homecoming election.
