The American Athletic Conference has 11 members for Football:
Cincy
Connecticut
USF
UCF
SMU
Houston
Memphis
ECU
Tulsa
Tulane
Temple

All the schools are in large metro areas except ECU and UConn. All of those schools have been in our conference before except Temple and UConn. If they want to go to 12 teams, which anyone would assume they do, do you think any other school would get a more favorable look than us?

Especially if a new dome is announced for Birmingham, I would think our time in CUSA would be coming to an end. I know someone else could get the invite over us, but don't we have as good of an argument as anyone?
NAVY is joining next year.
From the outside looking in, I don't think UAB would be near the top of the list for the jump.

Personally though, I think the advancement would be great for the school. Exactly why it probably wouldn't happen.
The real problem is if spots open up in the AAC it's likely because cincy and uconn left. At that point are we any better there than we are currently? I'd love to be a part of the AAC in its current state, but that ship has sailed.

This. Would love for UAB to be in the AAC for basketball with UConn, Cincy, and Temple. But it's not like the AAC is a major move up for UAB in football.

In my NCAA video game dynasty, UAB and Navy compete for the #1 and #2 rankings every season and end up facing off in the last game of the regular season in a C-USA East contest that determines who goes to the C-USA Championship and, ultimately, who can compete for a national title.

It's a good virtual rivalry.
I wouldn't pay millions to join the aac as it stands today.
I'm trying to understand the basketball argument. If UAB is a good basketball school and C-USA is a "lesser" basketball conference (I don't think there's that big of a difference but that seems to be the opinion here), doesn't that make it easier for UAB to make the tournament? Seems like the NCAA tournament format makes it easier to make it as a big fish in a small pond.
Football wise I'm liking our current lineup
It's because of football that UAB was left behind.

True but I'm happy with cusa's current football lineup
"it is because of football that uab was left behind" Um NO. football could have moved UAB forward if not for bot but it is not why UAB was left behind. They would never have been anywhere without it and now would be at best in the belt.
this thread is my kryptonite

i wish i could put the aac in a dome and blow the damned thing up

I agree. The timing of all the bad football crap perfectly coincided with the timing of expansion. Too much of a coincidence for me to believe nobody on the bot knew what was going to happen. Holding UAB down ensured that UAB went to a lesser conference and was less of a threat to the prized possession in the state. Football has definitely not hurt UAB, it just hasn't helped nearly as much as it should have at this point. We will see where we are in a decade, but with expansion calming it looks like we have our home for a while.

Which is why they dropped UAB from their 2015 & 2016 schedules.
UAB football will go nowhere until they move to the ACC, AAC, or SEC.

An SEC membership ensures that UAB has access to the national title game assuming they win out.

Well, damn. We should join then.
UAB to the SEC? I like it. I'll deliver the application to the corner of 22nd Street and Arrington Boulevard myself.03-lmfao

Nomination for the dumbest post ever?

Definitely deserves a nod. Not sure it could win over some of the classics though.
