Pretty exciting finish over at UH's new stadium. The Coogs switched QBs since O'Korn was not playing well at all. The back-up (Ward) almost led from behind to victory but fumbled out of the endzone with 24 seconds to go after a really nice scramble. He almost got into the endzone but it was the correct call (and a really good call by the official on a tough play).

UCF wins 17-12.
Heading to 4Q, FIU 24 FAU 10.
Now 38-10 with just over a minute left. What looked like a break getting FIU instead of FAU this year isn't turning out to be an easy away game it would appear. FIU looked good against Pitt for 2+Quarters earlier this year and appear to finally be making some headway in football.
Oregon upset at Arizona 31-24 to throw a big monkey wrench into the college football playoffs. Arizona is undefeated and unranked (for now) - shows you that UTSA is a much better team than people give them credit.

Please refer to the game by its proper term: Cooging it. If Levine and Mack aren't whacked after this season, I'm buying Rice season tickets next year.
You had a very good question on Coogfans, Mademan. Why is the UH starting quarterback (Ward) returning punts? That's a head scratcher.

Maybe. They also have a bad loss - on the road to that FAU team that just lost badly to FIU earlier in the thread.

This is going to be an interesting one to sort out. It's still early from a sample size standpoint, but Massey predicts the following conference records (based on game by game):

UTSA 6-2, but 5-0 against the West
Rice 6-2, but 4-1 against the West
La Tech 5-3, and 3-2 against the West
UNT 5-3, and 2-3 against the West
UTEP 2-6, and 1-4 against the West
USM 0-8, and 0-5 against the West

According to Massey, UTSA is probably the cream of the division, but not excessively so. Rice (and several of these other teams) still control their destiny. Let's see how it plays out.

An AD with experience at a Military Academy, a Big 10 school, and a mid-major academic elite school is available for hire. An added plus is he has his own sandwich board for communicating important issues. Also can help fill out the staff with the Friends and Family Hiring plan.
CUSA seems to be inconsistent across the board.

Okay, you made me literally laugh out loud. Well done!

I also noticed that Arizona's starting tailback was on 'punt block'. Not on punt return or at the edge, but actually rushing the kick/pounding the wall.

I think the idea of putting your best 11 on the field has taken precedence over 'don't get hurt'. Starting QB may have a point, but he wasn't the starting QB at the end of the game, and while ineffective early, O'Korn isn't exactly an unknown commodity for them if Ward got hurt.

Too soon? I both laughed and cried when I read this. Ugh!

And he'll interview well, so long as he doesn't say the university President looks like a terrorist.

That's a pretty well-defined breakdown with little room for tie-breakers. Losing the ODU game could be very costly if Rice were to tie or beat UTSA and then stumble elsewhere.

Nuts, I just realized that (once again), I cannot add. Massey is predicting Rice at 5-3 (forgot the forecasted loss to Marshall) as well as UTSA.

It's also interesting in that the Massey methodology has La Tech ranked a hair higher right now (like 97 to 99 for Rice, or something like that), but predicts Rice is more likely to win on the road at La Tech. I think he goes offense versus defense power ratings for trying to estimate scores, and for whatever reason, while the aggregate power rating puts La Tech on top, the score of a match has Rice favored slightly on the road.
If we just take care of business, we will be fine. So far we haven't (ODU), but do it the rest of the year and we're okay

We will not lose to UTSA at home on homecoming day. Not happening 04-chairshot
Halfway through the first quarter, Marshall leads ODU 21-0
Our last 2 SEC opponents are playing each other, and Mississippi State is up 14-7 near the end of the 1st despite a muffed punt deep in their own territory.
