I just thought I would mention this. I actually have no concrete numbers to back this up. I am reporting what appears to be happening in the market place.

About two weeks ago I went to my local Wal-Mart to pick up a few T-Shirts (white) for family members that have recently jumped on the ODU Football band wagon (one a longtime support of another school, that will remain nameless, their mascot name rhymes with any word you add....… ies to the end of). Anyway the clerk said they had sold out of the white T’s earlier and would have more shipped in from Wal-Marts in other regions, (I am assuming she meant from the state). Went back a few days later and they had 15 -20 on the self, it was nice to see. We picked up our two white ODU shirts as a few others were looking around at ODU stuff. Went back within the week, again they had SOLD OUT of all the ODU shirts and I was told they were getting at least one more batch in before the end of the week.
I am just assuming this is happening all over Hampton Roads.

We went to the book store on Saturday, (had a lot of time to kill), and the activity for ODU stuff was brisk, actually I would say they were killing it with some big time sales going on, Just my observation.

I feel our move to FBS has been a huge promotional and branding coup for the University. In the next few years with a little success on the field and with our new stadium in the future, we will see even more local support for Old Dominion. The demand will continue to explode to the more casual fans. Not that we can sell many more tickets now for our home games, but football and the attention we are receiving at the local, State, Regional and even National level proves we are going in the right direction.

I was looking for our TV ratings. I'm sure the Athletic Department could find them, I saw where ASN's first ever game (ODU-Hampton) realized three times the rating that their previous programming received.

I'm sure ODU-Rice and ODU-MTSU were well received as well.

I think the Hampton Roads Area is a sports town. We are just looking for a team to call our own. Many years ago I thought the right pro team with some corporate and promotional sponsors would eventually move in and take hold and the area would become pro sports town. Now I hope and feel ODU Football will fill that need. We have already proven that the community, region and corporate sponsors have adopted us. Make no mistake about it Hampton Roads is a FOOTBALL TOWN. Hampton Roads always has big numbers in TV ratings and the area has a high sports IQ across the spectrum (NFL Football, Super Bowl, Baseball, World Series, NCAA Football, NCAA Basketball, Women’s Basketball and many others athletic competitions that are shown on TV. If anyone can get the ratings, I am sure ODU will be many times higher than almost any other football games the American Sports Network has broadcast.

My biggest concern with ODU Football going forward is funding the stadium and the size. I hope our administration will build this new stadium with a capacity of 35k or more. The fans will come and support ODU Football. All the statistics support we will expand and grow larger as we move forward….IMO the sky is the limit.

I think a new stadium with a capacity between 30-33K would suffice for now. It should however need to be able to double in size if need be. I think it should be really nice like the TED, with all the current technology.
I would hate to look at an ODU game on TV and see a stadium half empty.

My boss, a VT homer, made a snide comment about the empty seats during the MTSU game. I asked him how many fans left when they lost to JMU. My job may be in jeopardy.
