TROY (0-4, 0-0) AT ULM (2-1, 1-0) (-13)—Saturday, 6pm, ESPN3—There are serious rumblings coming out of Troy right now. Not only are the Trojans not winning, they’re being embarrassed. A blowout loss to an in-state rival, a loss to a second year FCS team and getting shut out for the first time in 99 games isn’t conducive to a coach’s job security….even if the home field is named after him. Make no mistake; this week is a crucial game for Larry Blakeney. The Trojans have a bye week after this game…and when teams make mid-season changes, it’s usually when they’re in a bye week. This is the fourth straight sub-par season for Troy and things appear to be getting worse, not better. Keep a close eye on this one this week.
I really hope you guys don't hire a new coach. That sounds like a really bad idea.

Worst that happens is he leaves mid-season and a assistant takes over until a hire is made for next year...But I DOUBT that happens.

If anything he will announce retirement mid season and finish out the year as we look for a new coach.

I think that's the best case scenario.

Mid season firing is a fast track to a dumpster fire.

You guys don't need a new coach digging around in our recruiting area.05-mafia05-nono02-13-banana
Firing or announced retirement without successor in place, how do you even recruit. I could see the "I will retire at the end of the season and here is Coach So and So who will be taking over." You could sell that to recruits. Unless a major turn around this season, I would imagine a bunch of late adds and JUCOs for this year's class. Too bad. A good coach who did great things for Troy. Just wonder if he lost the edge or if the heavy reliance on JUCOs caught up with the program. He always seemed to have the magic touch of getting that right balance.

The dumpster is fully engulfed by this point.

Based on the love shown by your AD thus far, there is no chance of a mid season change. Believe you will have to ride out the entire season with Larry unless a mighty big donor/VIP gets involved.

He deserves to finish the season atleast... But it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and announce his retirement
Have always been an LB supporter till this year.....and I will tell you I still am for what he has done for this program......But the only certainty in life is change....and it is time......

What I have seen is sad and not entirely surprising and most of the posters on here have been very respectful of coach and the program...So thanks for that guys.....the sadness is like a Bowden or any other coach to whom the program itself owes so much is that there comes a time when things don't work any more......fortunate is the commander, coach, or leader who sees that things are going South and has the courage to inspire in a different way...

How it should go.....and yes just my opinion....
Coach calls team and coaches together with the following

Guys this year is not going how any of us envisioned it....to say the least.....I for one believe that in talent we are not nearly as bad as we have played....With that in mind ....It is my responsibility to either inspire or lead you guys to play at your best ability....and I have failed to do so......I do not believe that I have forgotten how to coach or prepare but the results are, if not due to one of those reasons, then it is much worse. I have lost the ability to inspire young men whom I care for and respect to be their best in a game that I have loved for years....and I believe you guys also love this game....and my guess is you will not fully realize how much until years from now.....and I want nothing more than to help you realize that IN THIS MOMENT @ THIS TIME @ TROY UNIVERSITY"

To this end....."I am announcing my resignation as head coach at the end of this year....I will do everything I can to help you and my coaches turn this year around....and I will do everything I can to ensure that Troy Football is on the best footing possible as I leave.....I want to thank you for coming.....NOW...lets go to work....04-rock
Generally, if a coach is looking at a "do or die" game, he's already a dead man walking.
