It's been a hard few years for the Zips faithful.

With the performance of the MAC so far and the excitement of the beginning of the season now worn off, these numbers can do nothing but decline. I imagine NIU's will increase given the anomaly of their first game in bad weather, but almost all of the others look to be about at their peak, excepting a couple of traditional big crowd games.

Who would expect their average to rise from the above?

I can tell you after what looks to be an 0-5 start for KSU (@UVA this week; @NIU the week after) crowds will be slim at Dix Stadium for the 4 remaining home games, although the Akron game will draw even with two crappy teams. Army might draw decently as well, but the other two games--UMass and Toledo--will not generate much interest.

I think UB *MIGHT* hold where they are given that four of their seven home games are in august/september... The other three are on ESPN2 so hopefully we can pull some ok student turnout if we are winning..

Crowd for Miami vs Cincinnati game was great at Paul Brown Stadium. Miami indicated they may try to play more games there vs other teams. I'd think Ohio U and Marshall would be good crowds along with our last game at PBS vs Kentucky.

MAC should try 1 game a year like this and similar to the Buffalo bs BG game at the Ralph and NIU vs Iowa at Soldier Field.

Miami still has Family Weekend & Homecoming Weekend, usually the best 2 attended games of the year.

Remember a month ago when UMass fans were bragging they would lead the MAC in attendance? LOL.

Figures, this weekend is our bye week. 2 weeks until our first home game against an FBS opponent.

Yup and now were hearing when BYU comes to town it's going to trounce the attendance BC brought...

i think UT will raise theirs. Bad weather outlook for all of the games so far, luckily held off for the first 2 games at least. Still got homecoming and BG, with only one game left that will be lower than our average i think.

The 3 largest home crowds in Ohio football history were against the following opponents-

1. New Mexico State
2. Akron
3. Idaho

go figure.

Our largest crowd was against Indiana State in 2000 (36K).

I don't know the background of your Ohio games, but my hunch would be they were home openers following very good seasons.

The top two were in 2012. One was the home opener coming off the Penn State win, and the other was Akron, when I think the team was still undefeated and gaining national recognition (all of which went up in flames in Oxford).

The game in '83 vs. WMU was the opening of Yager Stadium...it held 25,183 initially, was expanded (sort of with temp bleachers in corners) to 30K for a few years (due to the NCAA DIA attendance stds then in place) and now is a cozy 24.2K after renovations (new stands on Student side and one end zone and took out other end zone bleachers in favor of Cradle of Coach's plaza and jumbrotron). Also interesting in that no games from the Big Ben 2003 (13-1 and #10 final ranking) MAC championship team made the list, but our average attendance that year was 25K so we had about that for every home game.

While I know you got this from Miami's official website- I don't think it is right. I remember that Miami used to report that the BG home game in the 2003 season wa in the 28K range- I don't know what happened to invalidate those results- but I remember the huge crowd on national TV.

Six of UB's top attended ten games since 1992 have come since 2011. And aside from Temple (first game of the Turner Gill Era) and Syracuse (Which brought a lot of Orange fans) the next four are in the past two seasons.

I like the way our fan base is starting to grow. Soon we can count on being respectable most years in the MAC and maybe even among to top few regularly.

Notice Stony Brook is in there twice. Next year we open up with smAlbany so hopefully they can travel like the Seawolves fans. At the very least our fans seem to care about the other SUNY schools.
