We were FBS in 199 and finished 10th in the final AP poll. We did not receive any votes in 1996 in the AP, even though that is widely regarded as the best 1-AA team ever. It wasn't "hip and cool" to vote for a 1-AA team then. (I think it is still just silly and a waste of points on someones ballot, FCS has their own poll).

We finished with 33 points, #29, in 1997.

The rules were changed in 2007 to allow votes for FCS teams. Appalachian State was the first FCS team to receive votes in both the weekly and final polls. Since then, a few teams receive votes periodically. I'm aware of App, EWU, JMU,and NDSU at least getting votes during the season in the past, and there is a guy who always puts the FCS champ at #25 on his year end ballot.

Its not the same people every year that have votes. And regardless, it is ridiculous. They need to just keep it seperste. FCS poll for fcs, fbs for fbs. It is like ranking a college team in the nfl power rankings.

It's a division one poll. Get over it
