I like it.

I remember the last time the two teams played each other. Sadly Mr. DeMarco lost his starting qb spot to some young kid due to injury that evening. Who knew that young kid would turn out to be such an outstanding qb and representative of ODU. Hopefully by 2016 Mr. Bentley will be on his way toward pushing against some of TH's records. Let the beat go on!
Meh. I'd rather play Temple since we have been recruiting in NJ.
^ agreed

We needed a 2016 FBS opponent and Temple is booked up for 2016.

I think scheduling UMass was a case of going after low-hanging fruit as I think 2016 is their first year as an Independent. It's probably good to go after such slots while the exist because there probably isn't a whole lot open for 2016. We also got the Oct. 1 date which isn't too bad.

I'm not saying that we made a bad choice, I'm just saying that I'm not excited about it. I agree that we have to take what's available. I just don't see a major benefit by playing them beyond filling the schedule. But it is better than Idaho or San Jose St.
I like playing GaSt and App St because of the recruiting. If we lose it's not big deal, they're not really recruiting hard in Hampton Roads. If we beat them then even if it only makes the kid think a bit more about leaving for VA instead of staying in GA/NC then it's worth it. We're probably going to be playing two G5 teams per year in OOC, they might as well give us an edge in something, UMASS doesn't really do that.

That said, I have no idea how hard scheduling is. I'd rather UMASS than some team that we have no chance of beating or is all the way across the country.
I kinda saw this coming. Nice to have the 2016 schedule sewn up ahead of time. Not sure where UMass will be in terms of overall ability, but I like our chances to win both.

I like it.

I like it too! I like it for 2 reasons: 2016 & 2017! A near guaranteed double win is way better than a horrendous loss at a Power 5 school any day of the week!
I thought we were only playing 1 FCS team per year.

I see what you did there.

I like it.

I'm stoked for this. I wish the 2017 game was in October rather than September but a trip up to Massachusetts will be sweet none the less.
We all know what happens when schools play us on their on-campus arena rather than their glitzy stadium...

I think BW is right when he says we have to guard against over scheduling. An FCS team, a beatable FBS team - give us 2 W's. Then we still have 2 OOC games where we may go anywhere from 0-2 to 1-1 to 2-0 (tough to do). The C-USA Schedule is proving to be tougher and tougher as we get into the season. There are some good teams that - like us - are young and are only going to get better. I'm really excited about the future of the conference both in FBall and Hoops. I think we have young and hungry programs with everything in place to go out and succeed. And I think success will come. Heck C-USA may place at team in a Major Bowl Game this season (being the best of the Group of 5). Exciting times.

My thoughts exactly. Our meteoric rise and winning culture can be attributed largely to the scheduling philosophy.
Closest road game to my house since at Monmouth in 2010 (during which I was on campus so it didn't help) Would like to see home and homes with Temple, Rutgers, UConn or maybe Buffalo.
