Quote: UCF has signed an agreement to play one road game and one home game against Pac-12 power Stanford.

Quote: SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -- Syracuse and South Florida have renewed an old Big East rivalry, agreeing to play a home-and-home series beginning next year.

Syracuse Director of Athletics Daryl Gross says the series gives the Orange important exposure in Florida and renews a budding rivalry the team had before joining the ACC last year.
Cool news! We, Memphis, needs to have more Top 25 non-conference games in the future. It sets Memphis to possibly be considered to be part of the Power 5 if Memphis does well against them.

+9 Very True...And why this trend is so exciting that we're experiencing! I am thrilled to have this staff. And enjoying his success as our team is becoming very impressive to watch!
Saw tonight where Houston will open the 2016 season against Oklahoma in the Texans' stadium, then the return game in Norman in 2019.

All the talking heads' hot air over SOS and hand-wringing over the BigTen's poor standing against the other 4 made me wonder if the AAC, MWC, & MAC will begin getting more games with the P5 in place of the FCS, C-USA, and SunBelt teams. (BTW, it sure seems like a LOT of C-USA teams have had games vs. P5 teams this year. Maybe it's simply that I've noticed them.)

Yep, we need to not shy away from playing the big teams. Tennessee, Arkansas, and Ole Miss are good places to start.

Would rather ACC or B12
Yep. If we hope to someday be a part of the B12, then we need to scale back or quit playing $EC teams and schedule the B12. Kansas would be an excellent place to start, both for football and basketball.
I would think MO, OU, OSU, Kansas, KSt, some of the closer TX schools out of the B12, UK, Vandy, AL, Auburn, UGA, MSU, UF, FSU, GT, UNC, NCSt, Duke, VT, UWV & some others would be a great pool from which to schedule games home & home P5 games. Some might not play us home & home but some will & we should get those on a regular rotation. We have found there is no shame in losing to UCLA while losing to MTSU, AkSt & the like hurts the program - and from what I'm seeing we will get some wins against the listing above that will advance the program. Go Tigers!

Getting better for sure!
Perception wise Memphis needs to schedule OOC Big10 Pac10 Big12 games and cut the SEC. Im tired of the same ol
same ol SEC games. I enjoyed the UCLA game far more. I really enjoyed the Duke series.
Quote: The American has the most challenging nonconference schedule of any league in 2014, including scheduled games against 10 teams that were ranked in the top 25 of last year's final USA Today Coaches' Poll (South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Baylor, UCLA, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Duke, Vanderbilt) and additional games against BYU (three), Georgia Tech, Miami and Penn State.

This should have been added to the original post, as this is imperative when considering what
potential bowls we are asked to participate in. This also has or more respectfully, should have major considerations as to why we have received votes in the coaches poll.

Another imperative aspect to look at is the impact that Navy will have when it becomes a member in 15'. I must admit, initially I wasn't convinced of the validity of the AAC from a football perspective. That became apparent with UCF's success last year. Then, as I look at the schedule of Navy this year: Navy had an first game matchup with #5Ohio State and gave them all the resistance they could stand in a 34-17 defeat. Navy then went on to polish off Temple (conference foe), Showing it's viability in the Conference.

There are future interesting matchups; beginning with Rutgers; former AAC foe Rutgers that defected to the B1G10. So Rutgers being in a Power 5 now, has instant credibility against the AAC if they win; however, with a loss would probably be given the benefit of the doubt. Unless, of-course they experience any level of success v B1G10 opponents....TBC.

Navy then sees games versus San Jose State; Notre Dame and the Gigantic season ending game v Army. These games gives tremendous exposure as they are played on the CBS network; are against ranked teams from power 5 conferences; have bowl-like atmospheres as major sponsors have long-standing contracts with Navy, that are Monstrous by comparison.

In summary, it's very exciting to be a part of the emerging AAC as we will have a platform to build upon. This stage allows our team to solidify coaches that take pride in what is represented on the field and that is a welcomed phenomenon here. It also gives us credibility with coaches that have votes in the respective polls and recruits gain confidence that they will get exposure in matchups that feature power 5 representatives.....Truly this is a fantastic caveat that we have going on here.... It feels as though we are on the cusp of becoming the 6th power conference.....Kudos :coffee3:

The Big 12 'grant of rights' is extended with each new Big 12 TV contract - right? If so, I can see Texas and Oklahoma getting offers from other conferences during that period --- creating a Big 12 opportunity for Memphis. So agree on playing as many Big 12 teams as possible - football and basketball.

"Coach Fuente and I felt that our non-conference football schedule could be reevaluated and expanded to give our program greater national visibility," said Director Bowen. "Fans want to see their teams compete against top level collegiate programs, and I believe that our future schedules will follow that trend."
I believe the Missouri games are no longer on those schedules. They were 'pushed back' a few years at Missouri's request.

Interesting
We are playing in a conference, and our goal needs to be to win the conference.

To accomplish this we need to play a smart ooc schedule, one that balances wins, fan interest, and ABILITY to ATTRACT top flight players.

IMO what is needed is the very best OOC home and home we can schedule for two games, one game a Div1aa game (start the year off with a big crowd seeing a win) and another game with a div1a team that we have the advantage over. (ie lower budget, conference than us)

If we do this we can go even in our conference and make a bowl game, we can recruit top flight players to play attractive ooc games to go along with the good conference we are in and we can be as relevant as possible on a national and regional stage.

UCLA was a brilliant move, Ole Miss and utk are fine, div1aa in state makes sense,

Get rid of Ole Miss and it smells a lot better. I like the PAC12 and Big XII mix

UCLA will wait for Paxton to use up his eligibility before playing the return game.
