Despite the L in the loss column, this was a victory. Considering the stakes & where we've been, in just the last 3 seasons. This showing was huge! Great game Tigers! Proud of y'all immensely. Can't wait to see y'all play in Dallas soon!
Thread title could use some work.

No doubt.
I am in Hawaii and all of the locals were yelling for Memphis. We got an ovation at the end of the game.
Big improvement, enjoy the bye week, then prepare for Middle and Ole Miss!!

BIGD is spot on here.
As a lifelong Tiger football fan, my BFS is flaring it's ugly head today. Despite my enthusiasm, all I can envision is a loss to MTSU and all the momentum crushed...

Please Dr. Fuente...cure us all of this horrible disease!!
those who came here to L.A. represented The M awesomely. A lot of stupid West Coast people didn't even know ppl from the south could speak English ha!

Respect for the football team was earned. Basketball however, my UCLA buds don't respect because as they say "cheaters" is what the tigers are all about. Still pisd about 2008.

Go Tigers...Go Bowling!

+14 Unfortunately BDT, there will always be those that don't understand, or can't comprehend for that matter, with what perspective and validity that you are speaking from!

Nice game yesterday...but...no.

First off: Look @ this point> Great game Tigers! Proud of y'all immensely

That's a personal opinion and a response that many haven't had the pleasure to express in a long while! Instead of being negative! Allow fans to express joy; jubilation and enthusiasm for what they individually feel was a rewarding effort by our team!!!

Second point:> Can't wait to see y'all play in Dallas soon! .....Obviously, there is now a sense of anticipation, as this fan is gaining in his excitement and is now planning to be present @ the game v SMU!!! Were there plans before this game to be in attendance? Maybe, maybe not! But to try and steal anothers' joy is absolutely self-centered and uncalled for.....Wallow in your own misery...and keep it off of a public forum!

Final point:> Considering the stakes & where we've been, in just the last 3 seasons. This showing was huge!....

Even if we just take the updates that were constantly given on ESPN regarding the score changing so frequently from UCLA being ahead, then Memphis being ahead...that's very positive feedback as it kept the nation in-tuned as maybe ESPN as a network feels that this may be one to watch. Either the demise of a pre-season giant; Or the rise of a team that just blew-out there previous opponent by 60+ points; got 1 coaches poll vote by a coach who saw something that ESPN probably missed?

Either way, all of this is beneficial to Memphis, based on where we have been as well as where we are trying to go....Also the recruiting possibilities are or could be huge and should not be taken lightly...Let alone the possibility of future games ie; matchups with UCF,Army featured on ESPN in the future. When has that EVER happened?

Summary> Some will 4ever be oblivious!

que?
Somehow it is un fan like not to view the competitive loss as the most important victory?

Good grief man.

It was a noble effort, and bodes well for the rest of the season. And...we even could have won the game. Similar efforts will result in wins in most remaining games and that is a great thing.

But not sure scorn is deserved if a Memphis alum believes that in our past we have actually had bigger WINS..especially games we did win...or that thinking one of those wins was actually bigger means that somehow we do not get the encouraging signs that came even in a loss.

Last I checked, I guaranteed a win over Middle.

Way way off base here.
Interpreting viewing say, the Mississippi win in 2003 as bigger, for example, you know that game that announced DeAngelo to the world, set the stage for 5 bowls over the next 6 years, led to a 9 win season and for what at the time looked like an arrival...as bigger than a loss yesterday, is being oblivious.

Keep in mind, the premise was that this was the biggest game ever. Not that this was a singularly important effort that even in a loss nodes very well for the future.

I must have called this one out on something I the past because this attack was one of the more asinine ones I have ever witnessed.

RE: Coach Fuente
He's obviously a good coach. I'm not just talking x's and o's either. That team I watched the other night didn't look like anything close to the teams I've been watching the past five yrs or so. They had a really nice confidence about them that is hard to describe. After yousee-elay scored right out of the gate, we promptly went down the field on a beautiful drive and rammed it down their throats. That's not the team we've been watching for the last however many years.

That's Him! That's the coach.

I don't know what's going to happen the rest of the season but this guy has this group believing. They're not tippy toeing around anymore just going through the motions. These Tigers look like football players.

Ok, I am going to attempt being very diplomatic here....It's very easy to realize and understand that some wont be able to see a trend developing in it's infancy stages to correctly ascertain a movement of this magnitude... Some captain man their ships into rough seas not expecting or anticipating that there may be a catastrophic 100ft wave that will abruptly end the journey,Where some captain can predict (based on the current circumstances) that there will be rougher seas ahead, therefore steering clear of danger, living to sea better days....

Most teams have what fans consider a crosstown or close proximity rival. If we were to chose or name a crosstown rival of the Memphis football program, I think majority would say Ole Miss. Not that we are equally competitive with the "Rebs" as much as we have several known battles with them as well as there are many Memphians that have ties to Ole Miss....So really, they are really a natural rivalry.

With that being said, an occasional victory against them is pretty much expected (especially, if they happen to be in a "down" year). Because of our lackluster football history,As sad as it may be, we are content with the occasional victory vs Ole Miss...That's what we are reduced to instead of expecting to be competitive and more of a threat to them, given demographics and level of support (finances) available to both programs.

So, when this occasional victory occurs...We feel a sense of euphoria,understandably...sad but understandably. Because it's only a temporary blip based on the overall goals of the program. It doesn't get us recognized nationally...The teams share a backyard and recruit the same players....It only gives us cause to celebrate between here and there, 80 miles. And this type of victory causes Alums and general fans of our Memphis football team to accept this victory because it temporarily gives us clout against friends/associates(those that have ties to Ole Miss) that on an everyday basis feel that they are better than us!

Unfortunately, rarely if any, do these occasional victories have national implications....Although, this game coming up will and is going to be the biggest matchup between Memphis and Ole Miss ever! This is "The One" that is going to have the nation watching. And why is that? You might ask.... Because of the manner inwhich we took it to UCLA!!!!

I am going to pause here.....and let all of that sink in.... 07-coffee3

P.S. This is the game that we want v Ole Miss.....They are becoming a real factor in the SEC this year. Almost a powerhouse....And if we just so happen to come out victorious...Then we will have arrived my fellow & beloved Tiger fans!!!!!! Hold on....it's about to get really interesting in the Bluff!!!

Thank you Coach Fu' & staff...I really appreci8 what you are doing!!!!
