I think the D-Line actually was the best unit in this game. Defensive backfield was the worst. We have got to find a free safety. Staton, Simon and Worthy are gamers. Nice running game. Worried about the OL. Not enough time for Heinicke to throw. Hopefully Mewbourne can make a difference. Biggest thing in the passing game is that Heinicke and Antonio Vaughan need to get in sync and stop the over throws on the deep open routes. That should be fixable.
I will say this much. No way is Hampton the 7th best team in the MEAC.

I forgot to grade the special teams: D-
I thought Heinicke usually had enough time to throw - I just didn't see wide receivers getting as open as they should've.
based on the reports from camps and the talent over the last coupla years, i expected better than i saw. maybe i'm spoiled, but i did not see any aspect of the team take charge of their area and dominate like a fbs team should do with an fcs squad. especially when we are favored by up to 30 points. my perception was additionally skewed by watching the uva-ucla game before ours(bigger, faster, more intensity). also noticed a fire in the hampton team that i didnt see in us(as a team). we are definitely a better team, and we had moments where that was evident.
thank you for letting me vent, my session is done, checks in the mail.
Well, one week to shore up the problem areas.
Owens and misher are fine. Both are very good. I thought lewis played well too. The D-line was pretty good but we need to get more pressure.

Special teams were awful, hopefully a focus point.

The OL was pretty good, imo considering we replaced 3 starters and the tackle is hurt. LT was weakest spot on offense.

WRs were ok but we are used to greatness there. Pascal played well and Vaughn was normal self. Vaughn didnt do anything vs much smaller guys. Didnt see much from Lowe and England. Washington probably has a td if he didnt get held.

Didnt play well an won by double digits. Need improvement next week.

Running game got goin which is nice to seee
The defense was either 3 and out or forcing a TO or giving up chunks of yards. They need consistency. I think there's some talent there.

Not sure why the offense kind of got shut down the last 20 minutes or so.

Trying to remember. The 15 yarder by 74 killed one drive. Then the int on 4th down.

Think there was only one drive we completely got stopped on.
There did seem like the defense was faster than the past. There were still some young kids out there though. They did make some nice plays.

Heinicke was anti-Heinike the last 20 minutes though. That was odd.
I too thought DL stood out. Our linebackers can't cover pass routes. Tired of the defensive backfield. We have all those talented freshmen. Play them can't be any worse then the current cornerbacks and safeties. All that size we recruited and mini me are playing cornerbacks.
We were missing a starting safety. Don't think our backfield covered badly, just tackled badly on short passes. They simply caught us in a blitz with that screen tho.
2 plays before Misher had that int I commented that I liked what I was seeing out of him.

Will be interesting to see what shakes out for next week coming out of practice. Agree with everyone else. Special teams needs to be a focus.
I think you guys have hit on most of the issues. I am going to watch the game again tonight and see if anything else pops out at me.

Does anyone know what the injury is to Heinicke's left forearm?
Hampton had 9 yards rushing.

Get those DBs straight.
Honestly... there was improvement from them when they stayed in coverage. It was the totally blown assignments that had me worried. They only caught the balls when they were wide open... that sounds silly to say. But there were many more knock downs and disrupted passes in this game than I've ever seen from our backfield.
They wore US down...if the game lasted another ten minutes we probably lose. Maynor can call a game and ran a lot of sets that had our entire D running East-West. On the other side, they adjusted to what we were doing offensively, which wasn't a lot.

I thought it would be a test and it was. NC State will be a different test and a different performance.
Guess we should have worked Breon Key out when he was an ODU student. He intercepted both of TH throws.

First one was on a second and 30 or something, not a big deal, almost like a punt. But TH forced that second one.

I'd love a blowout, but now Wilder can get on them this week.

Both were just underthrown balls. Forst one england didnt fight for. Didnt think he or there secondary played well. We beat ourselves on offense on the last couple drives.
