Earlier I had brought up Tom O'Brien from Boston College as an intriguing target for our search.

Here, fleshed out in much more detail, is what a poster over at BearcatNews put up a few minutes ago on the subject:

Quote:Tom O'Brien has been trying to get out of Boston college for years. He's from Cincinnati and his offensive coordinator is too (Bible.) He is looking for a project, and our fan situation definitely qualifies. At 750k, he's a bargain, and their fans have been unreasonably harsh against him (firetob.com.) He's the perfect age to come here to retire. Plus, he's not a MAC coach (a step down) and he wouldn't be a just fired coach (a step up.) We can do to BC what MSU did to us, and i think that would send a strong message to the community.

Additionally, Narduzzi is now behind the eight ball from an organizational perspective, making him an inadequate coach. He not only would have to start recruiting if he was named next Wednesday, he would have to build an entire staff - which would delay intensive recruiting. For all of you who are recommending that Coach Narduzzi take over for reasons of a smooth transition, the integration of a new staff will prohibit UC from doing what dantonio and Michigan state are doing right now - recruiting as a team immediately.

Hire O'Brien, he'll bring his staff and we may be able to hold some of his recruits as well. That is the best option for the city - now the AD needs to stand up and pay.
O'Brien would be a huge coup for UC if they could land him.

He has been trying to get out of BC for years. He and the alumni/administration have not gotten along well at all.

He lobbied hard for the Washington opening in 2004 and a couple of others last year.

He truly would be a great addition to UC if they could land him, which I think they could if they put in the effort!
I like that option. The day after we hire him, UC is back
at full strength and back recruiting. He may also bring some
of his recriuts with him..
I'd love to see Albright transfer home, not sure if he played this year or not but he was a beast at St. X.
hell, lets go for it....
You talk about an image-busting move -- that would be one!

Coach of a Top 25 BCS program respected for his integrity leaves to come to UC. Plus he's got that GCL/St. X pedigree to break down some barriers we've faced with those folks.

If those BC fans are upset with 9-3, we'd be glad to take a decade's worth of that, and I promise -- no complaining.

He would also open up the recruiting at ST.X for UC.

If it is wrong for Dantonio to do that.......

IF the fans are pushing Tom out, theyre just asking for it...
Dantonio fed everyone involved with the program a load of BS
He'd be a great hire. Lets get this done. He is worth more than what they were going to offer coach D, so lets get this done.

Go read the free BC Scout board........it's over the top ugly, harsh, and irrational. I agree...get the big $$ people and make a play for the guy now....!!!

If it fails......I'd still go Narduzzi. I like Narduzzi for his coaching skills, his sincere enthusiastic personality and the fact the team backs him. I agree his "continuity" benefit has taken a hit due to Dantonio's quick action to immediately raid the current staff..........but Narduzzi starting on things next Wednesday is infinitely better than waiting until 12/24 to name some other "Coordinator" type guy...who would have to do all the same staff building/recruiting from scratch too.

1) O'Brien....go for it!!
2) Coker
3) Narduzzi
4) Foster - VaTech or Tenuta - GaTech
5) Central Michigan coach
Well, if we could get O'Brien it would effectively end the virtual catholic school lockout in Cincinnati.

You can go to UC and still be a good catholic boy.

Further, we might finally get that Notre Dame game on our schedule. :)

I certainly hope that the package we offer is $1 million bucks. Surely we can get somebody who isn't an old cast-off sock for $1 million.
If we stole BC's staff, among the happiest of people to see it would be Mike Tranghese and the other "old" Big East members. If you recall, BC was the ultimate turncoat in those ACC negotiations.

On the subject of gaining attractive games for our schedule, can we at least get Michigan State to schedule us now? It's really the least they could do...
I like this idea. It would be a huge message that UC football is on the rise. To take away a big time programs head coach would look great for UC nationally.
I like it. Lets get him in here.

Albright did play this year, he was going to red shirt but the projected starting DE got hurt before the season and playing time was mainl split between Albright and a red-shirt freshman. He also started on punt return team. He played in 9 games (Central Mich, NC St., Maine, VT, FSU, UB, Wake, Maryland, UM). Had 17 total tackles, ten solo and seven assisted. Also had two sacks and two and a half tackles for a loss. Forced a fumble against Maine and his biggest game of the year was againt VT where he recovered a fumble (one of three recoveries on the year) deep in VT territory that helped BC beat VT.

Wonder what high school you went to....
Us Bombers got to stick together. Hopefully we'll have another one coaching the football team.
Tom O'Brien? I'm game! Is he being seriously considered because I would love that hire, from a promotional standpoint, selling it to the fan base, and a stability and proven track record standpoint.
