Frankly, until his "mini run" the last couple of weeks, I and others were questioning much about his true coaching success. And as others have rightfully pointed out, we almost assuredly don't beat UCONN if his QB choice of Grutza plays and we very well may not beat Rutgers in his "signature win" game if Grutza had been available. Does anybody doubt now that he was far more happy for himself when they won the Rutgers game than the team and the school, considering Michigan State had already contacted him on November 11?

I don't care who is on the field either, you don't lose 70-7 against anybody late in a season if you are a "great coach". The timeline below is not one of a guy who people should have been tripping over themselves to hire away IMO, says a lot about the likely turndowns by other candidates for the Michigan State job.

Oddly enough the biggest reason I did like the guy was his "character", well recent events don't have me sold on that either. Have fun in your bowl game this year Michigan State, oh I forgot they were 4-8. At least Coach D is bringing his high powered offense to the Big 10 with him lmfao

Oh, and I forgot about that guy, Narduzzi or something, that was in charge of his team's strength during his tenure. So I guess at least he can evaluate defensive coordiantor talent, unlike offensive coordinator and QB talent ;-)

I think Dantonio did a good job but if UC makes the right hire it won't be much of a loss.
I posted this in the other thread, Mark D. was 18-17, 15 of those losses were by double digits.

While I do wish he was still here, I am not going to miss him. They can even upgrade if they do this right.

Believe me I am not in a panic over this, strange calmness and almost excitement because of the fact that a man who clearly was not truly invested in the UC program (call the fans out, but shouldn't the coach be fully invested too?) has moved on and showed me a side of him that I didn't realize.

I will be very excited if they hire Narduzzi as the replacement and satisfied if they don't make a really boneheaded choice otherwise, say a crappy MAC coach or something.
I too wish he was still here, but I think Michigan St. really jumped the gun on this one. If I was a Spartan fan/alum, I wouldn't be overly excited by this hire.

I mean really, some of the people here act like Mark D left the cupboard completely bare. Soph/Freshman laden team with a winning record? New coach or not, the future's pretty damn bright. The rest is up to MT (collective gasp from some, I'm sure 03-melodramatic )

Much different scenario than either Murphy of Minter. Great looking football roster, BCS conference, top shelf facilities, and only drawback that being attendance at Nippert (which will be much better next year than this year). The casual fan will back at Nippert next year.
Someone I know at work put it best. He was sitting there talking about how Cincinnati didn't appreciate Dantonio, he was rooting for Dantonio to win to rub it in our faces, that the players should grow up and accept him lying to him. Then he slipped up and said "other then beating Rutgers what was ONE other big thing that Dantonio has done". I'm sitting there thinking "well if the guy was so great, why are you defending him to me". UC will be fine. This time though, we need to lock up our coach with a solid, long-term contract.
