Until I hear how we are getting $750k + per year and how our football games are not allowed to be picked in the first tier by ESPN3.com I wont be excited.

Per Dodd
This is a retooling of the final 3 years of the current contract plus a 10yr extension.

Completely agree. As long as we have mid week games on only E$PN3, it's a bad deal.

Another article on it I got when I googled it up:

Can someone clear this up for me (and probably others):

Does ESPN3 get first right of refusal for games the rest of the year. For example, can ESPN block a local cable station from broadcasting a normal Saturday game in October so that ESPN3 has exclusive rights to it?
Although the continuation of the MAC’s deal with ESPN in no way rivals the mega-TV deals of SEC, Big Ten and other major conferences, it does favorably position the MAC ahead of other members of the Group of Five (the American, Conference USA, Mountain West, Sun Belt and MAC).

"ahead" [of the AAC] = $2 million + per team/year

I hope that report is correct.

that would be an increase from $1m to $24m annually. That's a crazy increase, but not a crazy amount. I can see ESPN making the MAC the highest paid G5 just to eff with everyone.

So the deal is going from $1M per year to $20M per year?

Don't think so.

I would tend to agree there. Seems like quite a strecth. The only scenarion where that would seem plausible is if the MAC totally sold out and basically went almost exclusive on ESPN3 to help them build it which would totally blow and not be worth the money...

"Other" does not mean "all".

My guess is that we'll be ahead of the Sun Belt and C-USA, and comperable to the MWC. The AAC's deal is inflated due to additional value from basketball.

Selling out may be the only way we can afford to keep up with the changes that are happening.

Also, if we're lucky, ESPN3 will eventually be offered as an interactive cable channel. The cable companies already have channels like that, for things like weather and on-demand stuff. Having a third-party interactive channel like ESPN3 is the next logical step. It's technological convergence between TV and the Internet.
I don't care about the money, I just want it to be more than the AAC's so I can watch their fans implode.
I hope that the MAC did get a big raise, because Aresco has recently stated he is open to extending the AAC deal. I don't think you got a 2400% increase though to get more than AAC. Will wait until I hear official numbers though.

Well ESPN3 still gets first tier rights to games, so there is that.... No word on the compensation yet..

I assume most assume it will be say 1M per school per year.

I agree with others here that this quote refers to putting the MAC ahead of some others in the G5 - hope I'm wrong, but just being realistic. I am hoping for at least $10 million, which would put us at over $800k per team.

Of course it would be worth the money.. What are MAC schools now getting for their second tier rights?
I'll be disappointed in anything less than $18m/yr.
