Head Coach Mike Young:
"We've got a pretty good outfit, and we've got a bunch of guys that can shoot the basketball. Unfortunately, their coach is a bad defensive coach, and he allowed a shootout. We got a huge win for our program. I'm obviously excited."

Then at the end of the press conference he goes "I can't wait to eat Skyline Chili!"

His team gave up 90 points and he says Mick can't coach defense? Pot, meet kettle.

Well if you compare what should be the talent level at Wofford compared to what should be the level of talent at UC........
Mike Young will be out of a job in 2 years after this team gets upset in their conference tourney. Props to him for getting the best win of his career. And for getting Mick's attention! Mick is well respect, so that type of crass comment won't go unnoticed.

I was at the press conference and he did not say that about Mick. He said that about himelf being a bad defensive coach.

He did not say anything about Mick at all.

Then the people at UC who wrote that article completely butcherd that quote.
The way I read the quote he is talking about himself sarcastically.

I think you are correct. Sometimes it is hard to pick that kind of thing up just from written words. It is better to hear it in the flesh.
It would take some real balls for a visiting coach to say something as derogatory as that about the coach of their opponent.

That is exactly what he did.

I could swear he called him a silly leprechaun

I think he was overheard saying that while at Skyline drinking a Heineken!

"Skyline is for the winning coach, silly leprechaun" ;-)

lmfao
I don't think I've ever heard a coach put down another coache's ability to coach. But even though he didn't say it he could have. UC didn't play defense that's for sure. I watched two well coached teams last night in Butler and West Virginia. Beilein of West Virginia has almost a whole new team from last year yet his team was well organized both on offense and defense. So far I haven't seen anything to indicate UC is a well coached team as yet. There is no rhyme or reason either on defense or offense. So as far as I'm concerened the jury is still out on the coaching. I had UC beating WV just on the fact UC picked up more talent than WV did. If they played today WV would beat UC just on coaching alone. UC can catch up in time just on talent alone but will they. I want to see something that shows me UC is well coached in the upcoming games win or lose. Mick is making 900 thousand a year and he owe's us a well coached game. We shouldn't expect any less. We can excuse the players on their performance but not the coach. I hope to see some improvement on Mick's part and the sooner the better. Don

Don,
From reading between the lines, it appears Mick is keeping two guys in the doghouse...Cedric and Jamul Warren. It appears he wants Cedric to run the defensive sets and Jamul to set the offensive and he is having trouble with both...Cerdic knows, but just can't stay in the game...Warren seems really on the hot seat...all Mick's comments on "guys were on defensive, but never player defense" and that Jamul gambled at the end of Wofford game which caused the Deonta foul.

I don't know gents...strap on that helmet tight and dig in
