All I can say is bandwagon fans. Thats the problem with college teams that play in urban cities. When the college teams are losing then people go find something else to do and in a place like Miami I'm sure its not hard to find something else to do. With all the turmoil that team has gone through can you blame some of them? The brawl definitly would have prevented me from going to games.

Even at Louisville we had some empty seats after we lost to Rutgers. When you are winning thats when the bandwagon jumpers are in full effect, but as soon as you lose they jump off the ship. Sadly Miami has never had great attendance. We are talking about a team that has 5 NC's in football.

This is just the reality in most urban cities. Its just hard for teams to draw big crowds when you have professional sports in the same city. I'm sure if the Bengals were not in Cincy then the bearcats would have alot more fans. Pitt's attendance isn't that bad considering how popular the Steelers are. I guess it is what it is.

Miami's fan base is six miles wide and two inches deep.
Miami is a small private school and relies on support from nonalumni to attract crowds. it will only get large crowds when it is winning and playing big name teams. This is one of main reasons coker will probably be canned they cant aford not to be in the running for a national championship yearly. its not fair but thats the reality and why its a tough job for any coach to take.
Im not going to knock them because i dont think many teams in a major city would have attracted many fans for a 6-6 team with all their troubles and dissapointments this year for a Thanksgiving night game thats being televised in the city
Miami's attendence problems don't help because they don't play their games on campus.
It would not matter much if they had an oncampus stadium. They need to WIN to attract crowds

I knew attendance had to be REAL bad...as ESPN didn't show basically any WIDE crowd shots...or the normal ones high above the Orange Bowl.

Coker is toast...the "call" from Donna S. has to be coming any minute now.

Actually, with over 15,000 students...Miami is a LARGE PRIVATE School.
That 15,000 you quoted is undergrad and graduate school enrollment. While it might make it a medium size Private school it will still be small compared to most other schools in state.
Maybe this will shut up the ACC fans from ripping UC's and even the Big East's, attendance.

Only 10,000 of these students are undergraduates. 5,000 are graduate students who have minimal interest in the sports component of a university.

The upside for Cincinnati. compared to Miami(FLA) is that it is a large university, and about 100,000 alumni live in the greater Cincinnati area. Dantonio is building a winner at UC, and the fans will follow.

You know it won't, but still, good point CC.

Unfortunately you're right BJUnk. It just goes to show you in areas like Miami, and Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh and South Florida it's a tough sell the fan bases because of surrounding programs and pro teams.
