Anybody know a good local source for laptop repair?

Mine got sick and isn't doing well. It's a Dell and when I contacted them they want $150 to fix it but have missed 3 deadlines including sending me update disks.

Thanks in advance

Don't be like that.

That was kind of rude, but he's right. I have a PC that is only four years old and a laptop that is about the same. Blue screen on the PC, called several people and the best estimate I got just to "evaluate" the problem was $200, that didn't include replacing any hardware or restoring software. A few years ago I had to get Dell to remote in and make about $400 dollars worth of repairs, recovery and a new service plan.

I just ordered a Dell laptop and I will run Office 365 for $9.99 per month instead of having to buy all the Office stack. It seems the lifespan of a PC anymore is about two years.
Check in with Cooper Systems or Patton Computer.
Cooper systems review - ouch

I recommend Cooper Systems if you want a company that takes weeks (maybe) to repair your computer, can't tell you the status, calls back in a couple of days (maybe) and generally seems to have no clue what they are doing.
Uptech has been my go-to for years. If you need to retrieve info, it might be worth the investment. Otherwise, you can buy a new laptop or PC for about what you might spend on repairs and be up and running faster with a brand new and better machine.

I used to keep serviceable desktops for 10 years +, and then it got down to 6 years on average, and now I hold my breath every time I turn on my 4-year-old workhorse. Of course, I now back up with Carbonite and a MyBook.
my son broke the hinges on his lap top (only 6 months old before a smartass replies) and we used these guys

Thanks Jeb. This looks like a good place.
My issue is software related according to Dell and stsrepair only works on hardware issues.

What did Dell say that the problem is? I work on Dell's all the time and can solve most stuff. Sometimes though copying all your files and reloading the OS is the best most efficient way because it can often take longer to solve a blue screen issue. You would need to have your disks though.

I called them on a Wednesday. They said they would send new disks Friday and call. They did call Friday and said the disks would be there Tuesday or Wednesday. I said please refund my money. I found the utilities disk but not the operating system disk.

What's the model number and what operating system (Vista, Seven, etc.)? I may have some disks.
It's Windows 7 and it's an Inspiron not sure of the number.

I have a Windows Seven Pro disk for Dell Lattitude laptops. It will probably work on yours as long as you have the Product Key either on the laptop or in the papers that came with the laptop.
