Isn’t it racist to discriminate against someone because of the color of their skin?

Quote:With just weeks before the new Rutherford B. Gaston Middle School opens in southwest Fresno, community and church leaders are calling on Fresno Unified School District to reconsider its hiring of a white teacher to instruct African-American, Latino and Southeast Asian studies there.

At an early morning news conference Monday, a small group of concerned citizens led by Rev. Karen Crozier met in front of the school on Church Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

People at the gathering said the new school, which is the first southwest Fresno middle school in decades, needs teachers who reflect the ethnic and racial background of its students.

Crozier and others were dismayed to learn the person hired to teach the school’s three cultural studies classes is white. District officials initially considered hiring a teacher of color, she said, but ultimately hired Peter Beck, a former teacher at Hoover High School.

“We’re just saying what the community wants. We didn’t fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies,” Crozier said. “We still are at these racial fault lines, and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal, to restore the problems that have existed.”

the worst part is this teach volunteered to go teach at this new underprivileged school
This being California, Crozier will get her way and the teacher will be replaced with an "ethnic" instructor.

This is so hypocritical, and self-contradictory that it's hilarious. A fool spouting off folly, where the only correct response is a beating. It reminds me of fitbud.
A middle school has African-American, Latino and Southeast Asian studies? Are you f**king kidding me?

Yeah, that's the most elemental problem here.
This country is obsessed with race.

An entire generation has to die off before there can be progress and it isn't the older one.

Doesn't get much more racist than that.
They shouldn't be so quick to judge - hell, white liberals are often more zealous in teaching victimhood than actual minorities.

I guess Kalifornia starts teaching divisiveness early............and there's no discriminatory behavior here is there. Amazing.
The only thing about "cultural studies" I remember in Middle School was trying to get my hands on any girl's boobies that would allow me. If she was black, hispanic, or asian really made no difference in my quest for "deeper cultural understanding" amongst the races.

Meh, in 60-75% of the states, the loud black whiney contingent would get their way. The exceptions would be places like South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, etc.

Other than when Obama was elected and re-elected, when have the "Black Leaders" not been outraged? Maybe they should focus on building the black families up instead of tearing the non-blacks down.
Henry Louis Gates, who might be the greatest American Scholar on black history...................

Gates has argued that a separatist, Afrocentric education perpetuates racist stereotypes. He maintains that it is "ridiculous" to think that only blacks should be scholars of African and African-American literature. He argues,

"It can't be real as a subject if you have to look like the subject to be an expert in the subject,"[7] adding, "It's as ridiculous as if someone said I couldn't appreciate Shakespeare because I'm not Anglo-Saxon. I think it's vulgar and racist whether it comes out of a black mouth or a white mouth.

Yep, these so called "black leaders" are just as racist as the folks they claim to have fought against. Of course, if you point out to them their hypocrisy, they'll just play the race card.

That's the line that popped out at me a well.

"How do we help heal" Pssssst!! This ain' it!

"To restore the problems that have existed". Uhhh, restore the problems? Methinks Mzz. Crozier could use some of this middle school book lernin' her own self.

Ugh. another one that is the problem and doesn't even know it.

It's a little more Stalin like than you are suggesting.

So have you spent time in Kalifornia? And how did I suggest anything specific to Kalifornia in my response?
