Since Banowski made the remark the other day that WKU was the last piece of the puzzle for C-USA, is it time for some kind of grant of rights that holds the current members together for a certain period of time? Exceptions could be built in for advancement to a P5, which might aid in getting the GOR in place. What say you?

I doubt it. West Division teams will always want the option to go to the Mountain West and East Division teams will always want that AAC door left open to them.

Never seen a G5 sign a GOR. I doubt a majority of any G5 would be willing to do it. Getting a unanimous vote, would be virtually impossible.

Plus ... given the limited revenue involved in our TV deals, not sure it holds as much value as it does in P5 leagues.

I still don't believe that. I can see the advantages that the would cause people to suggest it, but I think UTSA needs at least a decade of success in FBS before they will be plausible for the MWC. Those schools have too much history to let in a complete noob.

And in response to the original question, I hate the idea, but I can see our administration going for it. We have an institutional lazy streak a mile wide.

Nobody wants to lock themselves into a conference with FIU, FAU, and UTSA.

Hate to tell ya but UTSA is going to be one of the gems in C-USA and for G5 conferences period, both on the field and in the stands IMO.

Possibly FAU as well, they look to be turning a corner competitively. Although I'm not as familiar with their fan support.

It's South Florida...so non-existent.

If they get to the point where they're constantly competitive, I'm sure they can draw okay crowds, but South Florida just has too many non-natives, immigrants, and entertainment draws for FAU to ever be a big time draw.

UTSA absolutely met with MWC officials and it was widely reported that UTSA had offers from The Sunbelt, CUSA and The MWC to choose from

and while this thread is laughable for a number of reasons it still shows that even when being stupid about things UTSA comes up in consideration more than a program in their first few years should

again not saying there is a remote chance that WSU would leave or be booted from the PAC 12 anytime soon or that UTSA would be considered or get an offer.......but still they get noticed and you will also notice that no one is completely trashing them like they would for many other CUSA members

I don't think this is a workable idea from a couple of viewpoints: I do agree with Orange County Owl that there just isn't enough money in the media pot for a team to worry about. Secondly, almost any C-USA team here would consider a move to what they perceive as a better situation from their point of view. It could be financial improvement, more exposure, perception of a "move-p", or competition with a nearby rival that attracts them. The motives will vary and will probably only make sense to the school that makes such a move. But I don't see any C-USA school tying their hands by signing such an agreement.

BTW, I personally think that most C-USA teams are quite happy with our league and see real potential in the future. That doesn't mean they are bucking to leave at the moment. I just don't think they want to tie themselves down.

Given Banowski's history of promoting programs "up" the ladder I don't think he would have a desire to seek a GOR. I really don't think a GOR is necessary considering the seeming stability at the BCS level and the fact that CUSA will be at 14 teams as of July 1 next year, when Charlotte joins.

Give it a few years; much will be told once TV negotiations are finalized. However, I don't think a GOR is unreasonable as long as it has an exception for going to a P5.

I guess. The ACC's GOR does have that exemption for moving to the NFC East.

Power has been consolidated at the top. Realignment is over now for the forseeable future. I think everyone in the G5 knows that they aren't "moving up" anytime soon. There's really no need for a GoR. My feeling is that most of us are ready to settle in and build something of our own here in CUSA.
