Looks like super-mole giganticus to me.

I was thinking of that really bad worm movie or whatever it was. Kevin bacon maybe? Wormhole or something? They could travel underground at like 100 miles per hour. It was so bad it was moderately funny.

Tremors... the movie so bad it became a cult and had 3 more made :) (yes, I've seen 3 of the 4... Haven't gotten around to Tremors 4).

No, it appears to have a rim and ejecta.

But not enough for a meteorite.

The underground explosion or pressure relief would seem to fit better.
