It’s been eight weeks since our guys have been on campus, and they’ll all report back on Sunday afternoon. We’ll meet as a team that day in preparation for classes starting on Monday and conditioning with John Barron Monday morning. We’re obviously very excited to get everybody back. Coming off a very encouraging spring, this break gives our guys a chance to get away and spend time with their families, yet prepared to come back ready to pick up where we left off. You can’t build yourself up in the spring and go home and lose it all. I believe our guys have done a very good job of staying in shape since they went home.

We split up our staff so that each guy has certain student-athletes he is responsible for calling. John Barron has done an excellent job of staying in touch with our guys and using today’s technology to help us monitor their conditioning. He’s asked the players to send him video of certain exercises within their workouts. That allows coach Barron to make sure they’re doing the exercises the correct way, and lets him monitor their progress. These things have helped us keep the players accountable while they’re away.

The way the rules are set up, we’ll be able to go eight hours per week starting July 7. No more than two of those hours will be available for on-court instruction. They’ve now made the summer very similar to the spring. You can work in groups larger than four, so we’ll be able to work as a team on the floor for two hours per week.

However, our first week will be devoted completely to conditioning. Coach Barron will have them for all eight hours that week. We want to first evaluate the guys and make sure their base conditioning is where it needs to be. Based on our conversations with the players, we don’t think there will be much lost, and may even have some gains in certain areas.

The following week, we’ll split our first two hours of on-court time up over three days, going 40 minutes each. The good thing about this year is we’ll have 10 guys back as returners that know our system and know our drills. There won’t be a need for as much introduction to drills as other years. This year, so many of our guys already know our terminology and drills, it’s easier to get right into what we want to do.

The four new players will have physicals Monday night, so they’ll start work on Tuesday morning. Summer school starts July 7 and ends August 8. That means we have five weeks to get these guys in here and work. We’ll then break for 10 days and come back August 18 for the start of the fall semester.
What is going on? He as much as said we will have 14 players.

"we’ll have 10 guys back"
"The four new players will have physicals Monday night"

(Where is BTH when you need him?)

If that is the case, and if they are all healthy, that is pretty exciting. I think all ten of the returning players had something to contribute. If nothing else, they know the system and will be ready to step in when needed.

That was my first thought- 10 plus 4 equals 14. Someone is playing without an athletic scholarship. Don't know if a returning player can do that and accept an academic scholarship. Still seems to me that Gus is most likely possibility since he already has had 4 years of education fully paid for. Don't have any idea what the deal is, but I'm thrilled everyone will be back.
