I kind of dig it but what is up with "State of ... Charlotte?"

My take:

1) Historically, the City of Charlotte has never received the political representation that it deserves from the Raleigh/ Eastern NC establishment, yet it has shown the strongest growth in spite of this. This has led to Charlotte politicians and business leaders to comment that it is as if Charlotte is it's own "state" within NC, forced to look out for it's own interests when no one else in NC would.

2) As one of the fastest growing universities in the UNC system and the largest university in the state's largest urban area, we have faced similar opposition from the establishment in Raleigh/ Chapel Hill. United we stand, this City and this University, growing when others in this state defy us, determined to make our place as leaders at the table.

If I recall correctly, the phrase and hashtag #StateofCharlotte actually came from the fan base, referencing the two points above.

Edit: I'll link this article in support of my statement.
I dig it.

The Great State of Mecklenburg has always been a term used to refer to Charlotte in a mocking way in other parts of the state.

I guess it is a play on that.
The football coaches have been using the slogan on Twitter for a couple years now. The first time I saw it used was when Coach Sykes was talking about recruiting the city of Charlotte as if it were a state of its own. Something along the lines of "Putting a fence around the State of Charlotte."

Much better than "Witness the Power" or "Your Town, Your Team."
Here is Marshall's.

I rather like Charlotte's. I have no idea who any of those players are, but they look competent. Colors and unis look good.

Marshall's looks straight out of 1998.
