@Me_4MVP: @UABBlazerNation I'm glad to be a part of #BLAZERNATION

Lionel Love

What class, position? What's the story?
Think he's a walk on. Played last year for Jack Doss at J.O. Johnson. Played in the 4a state championship against Dallas county.

That is a great guy to get as a walk on. He won't be a risk in any way, and there is definitely potential for something to work out with him.
Good chance he may develop into a serviceable player. Not your typical walk on.

Couldn't agree more. Here are some more highlights from his Junior season:

As far as his position is concerned, he played SF his Junior season and PG his Senior season. Looks like he averaged around 16 or 17 ppg. Could be a real diamond in the rough and certainly someone I'm glad we took a chance on. Especially since I know the coaching staff is looking at C/O 2017 SF John Petty from the same high school.
Well, didn't UTEP run over CUSA with a team of mostly walk-ons?
What utep did last year was nothing short of incredible. That looked like a team that could implode, and instead they wound up pulling together and competing with a depleted roster.

Adding guys like this as walk one can do nothing but help our cause. Who knows, maybe Haase told him there was a chance at a scholarship if he walked on for a season. If he can't compete at this level it doesn't hurt anything, and if he can, he improves our depth at a position that we lack known players at.
Meanwhile al.com is non-existent as far as coverage for us. Twitter and BlazerTalk is the only avenues for info.

keep up the re-tweets guys.
4.2 GPA 04-bow
If no one takes the last basketball scholarship this year, give it to him. I wouldn't promise it to him for 4 years but why not?
Might want to treat al.com as non-existent because in UAB's case it is.

First less media means less coverage. UAT ALSO had a transfer from Xavier who was on campus ALL of last year but just noticed by bama boards this week when 2015 roster came out. Its just ain't football maybe read about both when Basketball season starts

I always think its kinda ironic when members of this board are Happy when the snews reduces to al.com or the FM 92 ?zone? fails -- then act shocked when UAB receives even less coverage in a smaller media

If he's got a 4.2 GPA, then he very well may have received academic scholarships to attend UAB, which may be why he is walking on here. Don't waste an athletic grant-in-aid, when he already has one from down the street on the academic side.
It doesn't work that way. If you are playing basketball or football, and receiving non federal (aka pell grant) financial aid, then you count as a scholarship player against your teams 13(85) scholarship limit. It keeps teams whose universities are only extensions of their athletic program (Bama football, UNC/Duke basketball, etc) from funneling academic scholarship money to athletes that dont deserve it and then letting those teams have extra scholarship players.

I think it is ironic when the Birmingham News and radio stations predict UAB's downfall & then they end up going belly up.

Well until our media/website people start putting out more stories like UAT does, it pretty much will be. I saw that just about all UAB stories came from our website as the source. There may be the occasional story by a "reporter" if it's something big but otherwise it looks as though AL.com will do nothing but use content from UAB website, so ball is in our court to improve it
Crenshaw has a lot to cover right now, but hopefully they will reassign certain beats in the near future to let him focus on UAB and other truly local sports.
I'm told our athletic department will be have a discussion with them soon about coverage. Will it do any good? Maybe but in but holding my breath.
Yeah, I'm but in but holding my breath, too.
