Ahh, Risk. Land war in Asia or turtle in Africa and South America. And then there's Australia. Good times.

I just recently purchased Axis and Allies Europe 1940, and Axis and Allies Pacific 1940 2nd editions. An amazing board game when you combined both or play as seperate entities.

I played the original Axis and Allies board game to death with friends back in my college and post college days. I would like to play again with my son who is in middle school now. Did you purchase either A&A game online or at a store and how much was the cost? Just curious.

I purchased them both at Gameswap in Mason. They have locations in Tri County Mall and Eastgate as well. Each game was 74.95. My wife is still pissed at me, but understands my love for all things WWII.

Panzer Grenadier fanatic.

My brother and I used to play Axis and Allies but neither of us could be convinced to play the Axis powers LOL. So we would collaborate (nice word, that) on what each side should do and play the game that way and see what would happen. We tweaked the rules to give the Axis a better chance though.

I have an old game called Panzer Blitz (Germany against Russia) with the little counters and everything but didn't end up playing it that much. Also had a game called Flat Top about the Pacific war in the Solomons. But my brother referred to it as the game of paper shuffling and pencil pushing due to all the stuff you had to keep track of. So we didn't play that much.

I wish I could find a game like Fire Zone that I had for the Commodore 64. A simple, very playable and interesting strategy/wargame.

GMT is coming out with a new Civil War game. That's exciting as there's still not really a definitive game on the ACW.

Avalon Hill had a good one for Gettysburg back in the day. Used to play it with my brother-in-law. It could go on for days.

There's a game that came out last year, Guns of Gettysburg. Haven't gotten to play it, but I've heard it's one of the best games made for the battle.

Used to... loved the hex-map games simply because they were so indepth.

But the last war game I really played was Axis & Allies. Loved that one so much more than RISK honestly, cause it could turn into a 10 minute game or a hours-long combat, depending on what you wanted to do.

note they write that it seems "Near incredible" to get the Union side to ever win in the game. (their play tests say CSA - 11 wins, Union - 5)

Iron Storm on the old Sega Saturn is one of the best war simulators I have ever played. You can toggle the "fog of war" and weather on and off. If both are left on it is extremely difficult to win most battles in the required time for a complete victory. Can play the campaigns as either America, Japan or the Germans. Depending on how well you do, different battles are fought. Complete victories for all American battles will end with Operation Coronet for the US. Germany and Japan will face off in India if played as one of them. As you progress theough the war, units are upgraded when they become available including experimental aircraft/ground units.

Its a hex based game and on its own is a reason to buy an old Saturn system.

Last year, my wife and I went to BGG.CON and got some Here I Stand and Republic of Rome in. I have Sword of Rome, Lincoln's War, and Hannibal sitting on my shelf, waiting to be played.

Ohh the memories. Axis and Allies. Blue Max. A hex game based on World War 1 fighter planes. I used to always go for a German Flying Tank. It could take three times the punishment of the other guys. I also had a book game called Ace of Aces that was fun. We had a baseball game called Strato Matic. Good times good times. Avalon Hill games we played?? Fortress America? so so. A&A was the best I think.

Just read up on this. So many good memories surrounding this game. I'm going to look up the plane I used to use. It was Junkin or something like that. This was 25 years ago.

Played a lot of Strat-O-Matic back in the mid 60's (yes, I'm old). Friends had the starter set for '63 and got the complete set for '65. also had an Old Timers set. Spent many, many hours playing.
