UC's current coach of one season is apparently interested in the IU job and a strong candidate. Of course he came from Indiana where he was their pitching coach and top recruiter.

Within the first 24 hours of Smith’s departure, several noteworthy coaches have expressed interest in the position. Among the notable confirmed names Indiana has seen interest expressed from include:

Cincinnati head coach Ty Neal

Louisville assistant Chris Lemonis

Maryland head coach John Szefc

Vanderbilt assistant Travis Jewett

Xavier head coach Scott Googins

well that's swell...
Farewell Ty, we hardly knew ye.
Despite all his Indiana ties, and a wealth of reasons to return there, I consider a coach leaving after only one season somewhat low rent. Hope he doesn't, but if so, I wonder if legendary Gene Stephenson would entertain coaching at UC. Probably not, but I throw it out there, nonetheless...

What is the average attendance at our baseball games?
Reported is about 700 or so per game. Actual is probably closer to 100-200.

So we are worried about losing the coach of a sport that earns $500 a game revenue?

In business we had a rule, that product line that produced under 10% of revenue and wasn't a startup product was sold off or ended. That is how we always had growing profits.
does it matter if uc baseball is good or not....I mean, does it really matter?

I would suppose you could ask that about any sport/activity/course offered by the university. It would only depend on your own value system. Is it important to you? Then it is important. Is is not important to you. Then it is unimportant.

In the overall course of things UC, the better the things the university produces, the better it reflects on its alumni.

It has been said that, in the world of conference realignment, baseball is important.
I don't see how a non revenue sport that averages 100 fans is important in the bigger scope of things.

(if you like college baseball, then yes, it's important...to you) but I mean in the broader scope of things I don't see how it's important.

Agree Billy. Put it this way - baseball is a pretty damn important sport in the conferences we are trying to get into.
Having an overall strong athletic department is very important. You need to be able to generate revenue from every possible source, especially with a pathetic TV deal like the AAC has. UC as been solid in Men's basketball and football but pretty much pathetic everywhere else...

I looks to me like market are more important...I mean, how good are RU and Maryland? They both totally suck yet they are now in the B1G.

Well, we can't end our Olympic sports programs and remain in our current conference or move into a better conference. So we need all sports programs to be as successful as possible and to generate as much revenue as possible.

again...how successful was RU? How about Maryland?

I hear ya...and a part of me agrees, because it makes sense Sub but then I think of Rutgers and I'm not so sure.

The Big Tens moves were strictly market and finance based. I think all the other conferences moves are kind of a mixed bag. Whether it be geography, performance, history, etc.

Since the Big Ten is not an option, the best we can do is improve ALL of our sports and academic profile.

Baseball seems to be the third "TV" collegiate sport... Ive seen loads of college games on these past few months, especially ACC baseball. The more overall value that we can add to a conference, no matter how small, the better off we are gonna be.

What happened to the growing profits? The shutdown of Arthur Andersen hurt performance?

This is UC Baseball, not Procter & God. P&G's decision making process is different than a college athletic department or most companies.

This is a good point. The Shockers average about 7-8K. Forget what I said about Gene. He wouldn't touch this job with a 50 foot pole.
