Deserved it separate thread....BTN is now in the NYC and DC markets with Comcast:

The Big Ten Network and Comcast have finalized an agreement for distribution in New Jersey and Maryland, as the Big Ten prepares to officially welcome new members Rutgers and Maryland on July 1.

Big Ten Network president Mark Silverman and Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany confirmed the Comcast deal to ESPN.com on Wednesday. BTN announced similar agreements with both Time Warner Cable and Cablevision in May, so the Comcast pact means the network will be available on the three major cable distributors servicing the New York and Washington, D.C., markets.

"It indicates that the Eastern initiative is moving forward in the direction we hoped it would," Delany said, "and that it means that Big Ten fans and college sports fans will be able to access 24/7 BTN on basic or digital basic carriage. Our goal was to achieve distribution in New York and D.C., Maryland and New Jersey.

"That's good news for the fans and good news for BTN and Rutgers and Maryland and all Big Ten fans in that region."

BTN's distribution will slightly vary from state to state, but it will be available to many more Comcast customers rather than appearing strictly on a separate sports tier. Although launch dates aren't finalized, Silverman said all three cable distribution agreements will go into effect before the football season starts in late August.

So does the deal include NYC and DC too? The first line just says Maryland and New Jersey, but Delany's quote specifically mentions NY and DC (is Comcast even a major player in NYC?). And selfishly, does DC mean the entire DC metro or just the city, i.e. I'm a Comcast customer in NoVa and would be thrilled to get BTN.

From the above post...they are apparently on the Basic Tier not only in the NYC Market but the DC/Baltimore Market as well since Comcast is Baltimore:

So will the naysayers please come forward and realize that the Big Ten had pretty good working knowledge of what they were doing, certainly much better knowledge than the naysayers here that have anti Big Ten clouded vision?

Crickets.....
As for a Business Decision this was a Home Run for the B1G...On the Basic Tier for Time Warner, Cablevision and Comcast in Maryland/DC/Northern Virginia to go with New Jersey and the NYC TV Market = $$$$$$.

And in 2016 those rights go back on the Open Market...04-cheers
Nah, Jim Delany is a fool.

Well, I suppose he's a fool with a lot of money.
my first thought was he could have probably gotten it in the near future without even adding those 2.

I live in DC area and have had BTN on Comcast for a while.
I got the BTN in my college dormroom for free as a freshman at a Pac-12 school.

screw the $$$$ ==> the exposure alone is worth millions

yes they were giving there better football teams a couple more bad teams to beat regularly and as a side benefit get b10 into basic tier in a few spots

I'm sure the likes of Florida State and Clemson fans probably thought the same about Pitt and Syracuse.

Of course, of course, here comes the next wave of opinion from folks that "know better".

Could the Big Ten have gotten this on their own in the future? Sure, but would it be at the same rates that they will get now with the two flagship institutions of the States of Maryland and New Jersey? Highly unlikely.

Plus they get more access to the recruiting grounds in New Jersey and Maryland.

The ACC got Pennsylvania and two deserts.
Yeah, now the B1G will be able to recruit New Jersey and Maryland. Also, Ohio State will be able to recruit the state of Ohio.

All the while the SEC still has Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Texas while the ACC has North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Florida...advantage in regards to access to Top Notch HS Players and by looking at NFL Draft result the SEC followed by the ACC...
Lovely how you guys have to veer from the conversation at hand in order to NOT admit that Big Ten did what they said they would do and that you guys were wrong.

Going to redefine the debate Now? Nice try guys. This is about Conference Networks and how realignment aided in that regard. Trying to change the topic to recruiting is off topic and...sad. Just admit it folks, just admit it.
Nobody is debating the network would not get on Cable...after YES was used as leverage by FOX. The question is how much...I haven't seen any numbers yet. Guess what? The B1G programs even with the new money that usually suck will still suck and the usually good ones will still be good.
