Quote:This year’s game marks the beginning of a six-year cycle that matches representatives from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the fledgling American Athletic Conference. The Military Bowl is assured the sixth selection from the ACC among schools not participating in the college football playoffs. Beck said the Military Bowl participant from the AAC will be a “regional selection.”

Regional selection for AAC? Isn't this suppose to be the top bowl outside of the Access Bowl? So, if Tulsa is the champion then they won't be selected?
This is probably our top consistent bowl... but it's why we have bowl pools. Aresco said flat out that we would not have a single designated bowl for our champ. One reason is the very high liklihood we snag a better unused slot from the P5. But this bowl may not be the best slot for a Tulsa champ, if we have a P5 option in another (closer to Tulsa) bowl. The AAC wants flexibility, so our champ gets the BEST spot we can muster.

That said, our champ better be in the access bowl.

They could be in theory. The top 5 AAC bowls, not including the CFP access, are a bowl pool that must be filled before the others. These are the Military, Birmingham, Miami Beach, St. Pete, and Armed Forces/Hawaii. There is also an outside shot AAC champ could go to the Liberty bowl, if SEC doesn't have enough teams to fill it's bowl pools. Also included is a decent shot every year of being in the Advocare Bowl in Shreveport. This champ, if not in CFP or access, will be placed in one of the above games that has the best opponent. My understaning is that there is no order of preference. Also, the AAC is trying to grow the MBB and still trying to lure the Pac 12 in there.

The five bowls are grouped together (Miami Beach, Birmingham, St Pete, Military and Armed Forces) So they will determine who goes based on the best opponent for our champion assuming they don't make the access bowl. They could technically go to any of the 5.
