Interesting read.
Specially the part where he mentions.
The impact in the next 10 years of
1. How well will a school without football perform in basketball
2. Not having an ESPN contract

The big east is in trouble. Small schools and little exposure. Ratings are proving they don't have any juice. No big schools to ride the coattails.
Perhaps Georgetown could learn from Buzz... Leave while you can... Probably the only school I would take from that conference.

I can relate to the nostalgia that the nbe hoped would get people to care and tune in... After all, their last championship was around the time of Phi Slama Jama.

Houston fans still upset that the C7 wanted nothing to do with you guys?

Marq, GTown, Nova, etc are all traditional basketball powerhouses who have won National Championships. Don't act like UH is above them

Army won a football championship too if you want to bring up the past. Stetson played in the tangerine bowl.

The Big East had non-existent tv ratings. That can only last so long before recruiting starts to crumble.

Doesn't change what Buzz is referring to, How will the new landscape affect schools like Marquette in the next 10 years
Marquette, Gtown, Nova, SJU etc are traditional powers no doubt.

But that aside, their coverage sucks now and they know it.

I miss playing them in hoops.

03-lmfao You're way off little buddy... The only school I was looking forward in playing was Georgetown b/c of past history "Hakeem n Ewing".

LMAO! I've never heard of "Etc" being a traditional power.

That's an endorsement of their stroke right there. LOL

St Johns... :) ok. Marquette? Did you read the article?

LMAO! The second person that stopped short and listed "ETC" as a NBE power.

Listen up lil buddies... If you gotta MASK their "traditional power" by not actually listing the other said power, than it's to be assumed that the "etc" is code for "Once potent, now flaccid"

As a group, they didn't get out of the first week, and GTown (the listed "power") didn't even make the dance.
Here's to using our exposure to take recruits that would've gone to them 10 years ago

04-cheers

Here let me list the schools UC fans would rather see in The Shoe instead of your POS dead to the neck up program that has a high profile cheating coach that will be there for a cup of coffee:
Gtown
Nova
Marquette
St. Johns
Creighton
Butler
Providence
Seton Hall
Xavier

ie, pretty much 90% of the Big East

Going back to the theme of the original article.
It will be interesting to see if what Buzz mentioned affects the Big East and wether they keep current contract when done 11 years from now.
I think the word "power" is a pretty big stretch for the nBE. I could walk around UCF or any other non-Big East school and ask if they ever heard of Marquette, Butler, Creighton, Villanova, etc and most wouldn't have a clue. Very few people watch college basketball even though I love the sport. I'd even make a wager that less than 5% of students at non-Big East schools could even name 3 teams in the current big east. Let's get over the "power" comments here.

You can see by the ratings that nobody really cared about those "power" schools. They had the benefit of being in a large conference with a lot of big colleges with large alumni bases. I don't think the nBE schools realized how much they benefited from being attached to football schools which had yearly exposure.

and my interesting note...Didn't even realize Xavier was in the Big East?

OT
I looked at your ratings detail and I gave you a +2 back on 09-17-2007 for being a great USF/Big East fan...lol can't believe we have posted in this forum that long....time flies man.

Is this true? Growing up in NC I thought everyone did. I thought that CBB was more popular in the US than the NBA.

In North Carolina CBB is a big draw, but that isn't the case in a lot of regions. The ratings for CBB outside of the NCAA tourney is not usually great. The Big East games for instance didn't even show up on the ratings scales for a lot of games. I think the AAC ratings were like 4 times higher than that of the Big East and it isn't like ours were great either.
