Kind of like Sailor Cat - he appears to have an attitude.
I think the parody Georgia State logos are pretty funny and well done. Not gonna complain about someone taking the time to make those! I don't hate our logo, anyway, and don't find the resemblance to Zuul all that unfortunate. Kind of entertaining, actually. I would like the simplified color scheme that's already been discussed, though.

My current favorite in the Belt might be TXST's bobcat head profile. I think it has the makings of iconic status if it gets used consistently.

As for the GS/Georgia logo, it is pretty nice. As I grew up in Americus, it will probably always remind me of the helmets for the old Georgia Southwestern team:

Actually, the Board of Regents filed a trademark application for that particular "GS" last year and it is scheduled to be published for opposition next month.

So if the Board of Regents gets the trademark, who would get to use it? Georgia Southern, the BOR? The legalities involved with trademarks is not something I know much about.

The BOR gets it on GaSo's behalf. They own all of the trademarks for all of your (and our) logos.

Makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.

As an outsider looking in, the 'Gorton Fisherman' is much, much stronger of a mark than the corncob guy. But I understand that fan favorites may not always align with what looks the best, or what it more universally marketable.

You got to stick with what the fans are buying. That's basically how we brought back the stAte logo.

I like it! The PC crowd is what got our logo shelved the first time around.

I understand the majority of the logos I posted and commented on IS NOT the official athletic logos. I picked the ones I found that I personally liked.

We understand that fact..............

It is just a Georgia thang.

I know it's not a logo but I do like this

The older I get the more I like the academic logo and wish we still used it for athletics.

I wish we still used the "academic" logo still as well. The new ones have always been cartoonish to me. Another Grube / Baker fail I believe.
Using the main logos from the SBC site, I would rank them as follows:

1. Texas State: Sharp logo, great colors
2. A State: Like the wolf head
3. ULM
4. Louisiana: The fleur de lis has been done to death in sports but the overall logo is decent looking.
5. Idaho: A bit bland but workable
6. Georgia Southern
7. NMSU
8 - 10. Georgia State, USA, and Troy: All of these kind of look like they were done on Microsoft clip art to me.
11. App State: The block A I would put in the middle of the pack but the guy with the corn cob pipe I would not. In a time when most of the other schools in the country are going away from cartoony looking logos, App State decides to switch back to one.

Not for nothing, the original thread on another board that those logos came from was most certainly malicious.

I think I agree with this, although if I recall, I was still impressed that GSU had managed to make enough of an impression by that point for someone to take the time to create them...!

We used to have a poster who was a wizard with photoshop smack. He has kinda fell off the map. He was great on the AGS board.

I dont remember that thread but I think our "new" logos are not that great so not real sensitive about them.
I think the strength of the AState logos comes from how they were designed.

The stAte logo came about when Larry Lacewell was coach and AD and was thinking of hiring a design firm to come up with something. He mentioned that to one of the trainers who told him thought he had something he'd like. He came back with some drawings a former student manager had left in his desk when he graduated and with a few minor tweaks became the stAte logo.

When Joe Hollis arrived as coach he had a design firm come up with a new design of the letters ASU with an Indian head inside the letter S. Then another design firm was paid to stylize it more. For the next 8 years fans complained about the logo and when the NCAA started squeezing the Indian mascot thing they brought back what the fans had been demanding all along.

The wolf logo they hired a NY design firm and the initial drawings were pretty well hated. A Little Rock company was given the chance to do a design on a spec basis and the chancellor didn't care much for their work either. He finally went to the university Creative Services Office and asked them if they wanted to compete against the two firms and submit a design and their design won out.

You end up better off when the designs come from people who are connected to the school instead of some expert who looks up your info on wikipedia and maybe spends a day on campus.
that's too bad because I always loved the ole head dress logo. I still rock my ole head dress logo hat every now and then
