Play along here, let's say the football gods allow you to see the future and you were shown an American FB team winning The CFB NC 7 years in a row and winning a FB NC on average 1 out of every 4 years afterward ( hold your comments on how implausible this maybe, just play along) Also you see in this very same future your school is going to get a invite to a SEC/B1G/P12 in the very first year the remarkable AAC NC 7 year run starts. In this future you see, your school is one of the ones that wins one of these FB National Championship, but the football gods shows your school won't win a NC if it moves to another conference. But it will make a lot more money because of the move. The football gods give you a choice
1. Stay and be a NC in the AAC and be part of championship conference for the next 7 years and get comparable tv revenue after this 7 year run close to P5 revenue but not quite P5 money still after this remarkable run by the AAC
2. Or join the B1G/SEC/P12 and all that goes along with being member of one of these conferences,but in return for this your school will be an also run forever, never experiencing the glory of a FB NC

I would rather have my school awash in cash and playing meaningful brand name opponents as opposed to getting left behind with the less brand name schools down the road (even if that means an empty trophy case for football).

Even a Wake Forest or Purdue or Duke has success every once in a while. I tend to view these options like this:
1. become like North Dakota State. Good team, but totally irrelevant nationally.
2. become like Wake Forest or Purdue. Win once in a while, but probably be doormat status most years, but at least viewed somewhat respectably nationally.
