Sounds like a great move for both schools. Building a rivalry between the two makes sense.

I hope we play UNT in the near future. I could see my family in Fort Worth and check out y'alls new stadium.
This should be a fun game. I would definitely watch it.

I hope it gets played on Thanksgiving weekend. I love those rivalry games on Thanksgiving weekend or the last game of the season.
Glad to be playing them. UTSA will bring a LOT of fans to San Marcos. They might want to expand the stadium again.
Good! Our casual fans and some of the hardcore fans will love it.

Personally I'm excited to have a super close FBS away game every other year. Easy road trip and attendance will be great on both sides.
This game should be played every year. It will be fun and it makes sense from a economic standpoint. I think 39K showed up last time the two teams met. Why on earth would this game not get played EVERY year? It needs a name.

It is every year...
Good news, and I have a feeling it'll be sold out when the games are in San Marcos.

For 8 years. And it doesn't start until 2017....not exactly "every year" now is it? That said, its a good start for something that can and should become something very special for both schools.

It's the very definition of every year, noting that our schedule is full until 2017 and also in 2019. Plus 8 games is definitely on the long side for a home-and-home. I can't see how your argument of "more games, MORE yearly" is even lucid or conceivable.
This is good for both Texas State and UTSA. A nearby game vs a known rival. All games should have good attendance. North Texas also has games every year with nearby SMU thru at least 2025 which should be well attended.

The series had to be fit into UTSA/TXST's existing schedules:

I guess it could have started in with a 2016 UTSA home game. I'm not sure why it didn't. Maybe there are unannounced plans for that game (or TXST has something going on that year, or TXST wanted the first game of the series at their place since they already came to San Antonio once).

And, it won't be every year until 2020 because no game is scheduled in 2019.

I like the move. When the game is in San Marcos, that's a really sort drive.
Great for both universities. I wish this happened ASAP as I predict both programs to do well this year.
The build up and hype to the first matchup between UTSA and TxSt in 2012 was enormous and the game was epic. A lot of UTSA and TxSt fans are friends with someone from the opposite school. Two of my closest buddies are married to TxSt grads
Good to see. MT has finally gotten Vanderbilt to sign up for a few home-and-home games, hopefully we'll bring glory to the CUSA by beating them each time. I think we beat them the last time we played.

Absolutely. Fostering regional rivalries will be crucial to every G5 conference. Money not being made from TV will need to be made at the gate. You only get that with intense rivalries with close neighbors.
In my opinion, North Texas, UTSA and Louisiana Tech were great replacements for Tulsa, SMU and Tulane. UNT and UTSA bring twice as many fans to Rice Stadium than Tulsa and SMU. I believe UTEP and LTU fans will do the same as their programs improve.
UTSA vs. Texas State makes so much sense.

I've always liked "The South-Texas Showdown"
