It's one huge game and one pricey ticket

You already knew that Thursday's football game between the University of Louisville and West Virginia is big. Here's how big:

U of L has issued about 150 press credentials and is constructing temporary seating on the press-box photo deck of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for the first time. The list of media outlets coming to cover the game includes two writers apiece from Sports Illustrated and ESPN.com, plus the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Boston Globe, Washington Post and Miami Herald.

Representatives from three Bowl Championship Series games -- the Fiesta, Sugar and Orange -- also will be on hand.

"As far as national coverage goes, this is well beyond any event we've ever had on campus," U of L media relations director Kenny Klein said. "It's incredible."

Tickets to the sold-out game are demanding hefty sums from brokers. According to TicketsNow.com, seats have sold for an average price of $410. Tickets for sale on the site yesterday ranged from $290 in the back rows to $1,115 close to the field.

On StubHub.com, tickets were being sold for between $295 and $412.

ESPN spokesman Michael Humes said the game is the first meeting between top-five opponents on the network's Thursday night broadcast. He said it's also the latest in the season that two undefeated teams have played on an ESPN Thursday night game.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino said on the Big East teleconference yesterday that the game is the biggest in school history.

"I don't think you could ask for a bigger or better stage," he said.
