Shareef white won the north state (Mississippi ) 6A shot put with a distance of 48-5 1/2. Genard Avery placed third. Avery placed third in the discus at 133-6.
In the regional meet, white put the shot 52-3. Avery tossed the discus 142-11 for the win.
Avery and white also ran on the winning 400 relay team with a time of 42.11.
If you know anything about track and field, that is good news for the football team. Not many young me can compete at that level in that combination of events.
They throw shot / discuss and run the 100M legs in the relay?? Wow, that is an odd combination.
My daughter threw the shot 31 1/2. Not bad for 14. The youth coach said she's throwing further than his HS girls. Lol
She also runs 4x800,4x400 ,4x1600 , medley relay, 400 ind, 200 ind. , long jump, high jump and 100 hurdles. Lol.
And this is her first year in track.
Back to the topic. Awesome athletes. That's what it takes to win in football.

42.11 is a good time in the 400 relay
MS doesn't have the very strongest public school track and field programs, but the numbers these young men have put up are impressive. It's quite rare to have an athlete excel in both the shot and the 100 (the 4 legs of the 400 relay team each run a 100) in particular. Being that good in the Discus speaks well of their quick feet, as well.
I can see their skill sets translating well to D1 football.
