DeKALB, Ill. - Northern Illinois University and UNLV will make a final determination on the date of their scheduled 2014 game at UNLV "very shortly," according to NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier.

Despite reports that the game had been moved to Friday night, Sept. 12 in order to accommodate a CBS Sports Network broadcast, neither NIU nor UNLV has announced a change from the contracted Saturday, Sept. 13 game date.

NIU has already finalized team hotel and charter arrangements, and a large group of Huskie fans and alumni have planned to follow the team to Las Vegas based on the Saturday kickoff.

"We regret any confusion the announcement regarding a change in the game date has caused our fans," NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Sean T. Frazier said. "We are working diligently to bring this matter to a conclusion as soon as possible and are in daily communication with UNLV. Know that we will make the best decision for NIU as we continue to move the program forward. We appreciate your support of the Huskies!"

We must have gone for the get away rate where we cant change the night of the stay at the hotel or the arrival/departure!
This tells me UNLV is the one dragging their feet on this. A little pressure from us to get them to move.
Easy solution for fans - leave Thursday. Enjoy Vegas. Try to make it to the game.

NIU not happy that the UNLV leaked the Sept 13th game moving to Sept 12th for TV. The game may remain on the 13th now.

I'm just going for the game. I'll leave as late as possible and come home the day after the game. Each extra day in Vegas costs me way too much. Been there, done that. I don't have many more shirts to lose! I'll donate the money I would hve blown on a longer stay to the HAF.

UNLV didn't leak it...CBS and the MWC announced it.

Our release says we already booked our charter...To me this is saying the cause of this is us not UNLV.
NIU is right on this. They already booked the charter (including reservations for the high rollers), and they need to stand pat. NIU would be going through the same thing as the mortal fans who already booked their flight. If CBSSN does not want the game to be on Saturday, the game can get picked up by ESPN3.com, PPV, or a local outlet.
I could see this as a 9pt ESPNU game at best.
I hate being super critical, but do we really need a news release saying there is no new news on a road game? And don't mention how all this is to protect the NIU fan, its quite obvious the NIU fan is not on the top of the priority list. If that were the case there would be a news release saying that "2nd half of season game times to be released soon so that fans can see the 2nd half of the season".

I dream of the day there will be an NIU news release about a good home game, and not when a game will take place across the opposite end of the country.

I asked Frazier on twitter yesterday and I thing this release is because of that question.

The fact is MWC and CBS already announced the game to be on Friday but NIU and ULNV didn't. So really since people started to book flights it was best for NIU to tell the fans that its up in the air right now.

Vegas can't handle you. It's better for the city.
I say we do the same thing to them next year and make them stay an extra day in DeKalb.
