ODU Spring Game Bigger Than Ever
by Andy Hilton, recruit757 Great read, by all people......

The additional crowd and the growing spirit in the stands gave Wilder a lot to be excited about as well. Perhaps over three dozen recruits were in attendance, ....... Bayside cornerback Jamez Brickhouse verbally committed to the Monarchs after the game, eschewing offers from schools such as UVA and Wisconsin.....

NC State and UVA had their Spring Games on Saturday. Maryland had theirs on Friday night. Many recruits could have been somewhere else instead of in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon. That’s the kind of draw that the ODU Spring Game and a recruiting visit to the campus now has

Byrum started a trend of local studs SERIOUSLY considering ODU to be able to stay at home and play FBS football.
ODU has done everything exceptionally well since starting football. It's been pretty amazing to watch as an outsider. I think you guys will be a force in CUSA within just a year or two.
Niner - OT, but look forward to our squads assuming their historical perch in the pecking order of basketball teams, as well. This could be a FUN league with multiple bids if Charlotte, WkY, and ODU get back their mojo.......
Quote:Andy Hilton, recruit 757... Several thousand fans were in the stands on Saturday, no attendance number was announced, but the east side of S.B. Ballard Stadium was mostly filled on Saturday.

To get a little nit picky about Harry's announced attendance of 3000....each clamshell holds about what, 6000? How about the several hundred fans hanging out in the shady Ainslie favorite beverage area? Sorry Harry, love your coverage of ODU football but on this one you were somewhat....off. Either way, this was the best attended spring game to date and I don't see it getting anything but better in years to come. 04-cheers
I thought each clamshell was 8K.

At the start of the game I was in the Ainsile Game Day Building. I was talking and taking pictures, I just happened to asked an open ended question ...... "about how many people do you think are here". The group around me in an exuberant, unrestrained and -lets toast and enjoy the moment crowd- began to convey and bellow out estimates that ranged from 4-6k. From a distance, I heard a man say "they had to call in another Rescue Squad team". He said "the crowd had exceeded the number they anticipated". I asked what was that, he replied "there is a city ordinance that stipulates crowd range coverage". I never really got an understanding of what that number was. But he gave me the impression, he estimated the attendance to be near 5K. He went on to explain there was an apprehension from officials at the University. The game had just started and with the large numbers of visiting families, students and fans on and around the campus, the attendance numbers could grow even larger very quickly.

Bottom line, I think Harry missed the mark on this one.
This week we are seeing the fruits of a well attended Spring Game.
We really lucked out with the weather. Imagine if the Race, BBQ and Spring Game was today?
