Memphis is involved. Leading rebounder in NJCAA. 6'8" 23 year old. New York native, considering St. John's, Florida State, Loyola-Chicago and others.

"[Thomas' coach] has referred to him as his "NAVY SEAL" for his toughness during workouts and ability to finish through contact and withstand the brutal hits inside the paint. Thomas authored efficiency during his freshman year at WCC, shooting the rock at a scalding 65.4 percent clip."
Was he actually doing much "shooting" to get to that 65.4% clip? Sounds like another Pellom sans the injury, do we need that?
You mean another Tarik Black, don't you?

No, I mean another Pellom without the injury.
Dude was 197-301 from the field for the yr. He shot plenty to validate his 65.4% fg avg. The 15.7 rpg speaks for itself. Memphis is trying to set a visit so they must like what they see thus far.
Like James Newman from 95-96? The 25 year old JUCO AA, ex Navy guy who was going to bring toughness?

He averaged 1.7 ppg and 1.6 rpg.

Oh, why he did. Just ask Othella Harrington from Georgetown. James was "armed and ready". Lol

Well, all those 197 makes couldn't have been lobs or putbacks.

I just don't see where this guy fits in on the roster, especially with Hawkins in the fold.

I'll take another Pellom - he brought some much-needed toughness to our front court and was a pretty dependable sub.
Saw Hawkins play a couple of games. He's really more of a wing. As for Thomas, 16 rebounds per game is production. Not only hustle and toughness but actual production, no matter the level.

Who's minutes does he take in the frontcourt? Shaq's, Nichols', Dom's or Hawkins'?

From seeing Hawkins and knowing Pastner, I'd be shocked if Hawkins spent any real time at the 3.

Why. If he really is a 4 then he won't play 4. He'll be a 5 or nothing.

"Thomas can best be described as a gym rat".

At the bottom of that second article, it also contains the following tidbit:

"Facilitating the balanced attack for the Vikes was Giovanni McClean, third in the nation in assists with 7.4 per game. McClean is currently receiving interest from St. John's, Oklahoma, Memphis, and Duquesne, among others."
I love good competition. If someone doesn't want to fight for PT and earn it every day in practice then that's not the type of player we should want.

FWIW, can't blame a player for taking the "easy way out" and transferring to a school with less comp at his position in order to get PT. But the tough guys stay in thos situations bc they know they can win out.

Are you saying that Thomas took the easy way out?
