Personally, I think Jon Stewart would be a better choice.
I'm concerned that Colbert won't be as funny on the Late Show as he is on the Report. I'd have the same issue as Stewart moving to that spot (and personally I prefer Stewart to Colbert).

But for CBS I think this is a great move. If anyone could exceed expectations, it is Colbert. I am not sure anyone is quite ready to fill the Colbert shoes, maybe Samantha Bee?
Stewart has probably had plenty of offers at a network show. I'm guessing he isn't interested. He did almost replace Larry Sanders once, though.

Colbert will probably be funny, but not successful, because people will expect the character he plays on the Colbert report.
He won't be faux-conservative anymore, but I bet the sarcastic wit will still be there. It wouldn't surprise me if he goes back into character occasionally.
I'd like to revisit this thread later
I've never cared for these late shows.
I'm disappointed. I wanted Jon Stewart to be the replacement.
How about the duo that hosted the award show - Fey and P____(I can't recall her name) or Ellen D. who has hosted shows before. If only Billy Crystal was a bit younger. How about Seinfeld?
Amy Poehler.
The real winner in this announcement is Craig Ferguson. To me, he is the funniest of all the late nite crowd, but I doubt his humor would be accepted by mainstream America who is in bed by the time he comes on.

His show is produced by Letterman's production company. I heard today that his contract calls for the day that someone not named Craig Ferguson is picked to replace Letterman, he gets an $8 million lump sum payment.
