Anything other than that makes absolutely no sense the way the tournament is now set up. My suggestion is to make the NIT one division and the NCAA the other, and then have a National Championship game featuring the winners of those two divisions. That gives a lot more teams a chance to compete. However I would limit each league to no more than four teams, regardless of RPI's, etc. I can recall when the NCAA only invited champions from each league. And there were very few teams included.

I'd rather include nearly all teams in the national tournament if there would be only one. Do away with league tournaments. They're a waste as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather get into the NCAA as a 150th seed than play in a league tournament that means very little unless you win it. Probably the only way we'll ever make it to the NCAA as things now stand.

In a way every team is in the ncaa tournament... Win your conference tournament and keep advancing.

If you're in the National Tournament, even if you're seeded way down, you get some publicity. The SBC and other mid major conferences get no national press to speak of and we hardly get any local press.

I don't understand why it would be a joke. It would get more schools involved, creating much more national interest, and the best teams would win anyway. I think it could be great fun. Do you know how many tournament games I watched this year? None. Know why? Because I get sick of seeing the same teams win every year.

That's why I always hated the New York Yankees when I was a kid. I don't like someone who wins all the time. It usually comes down to a team having more money and buying players or in the case of college athletics, cheating. Sorry, but the game at the highest levels stinks. Needs to be totally revamped, IMO.

I agree. Don't add more. But if you are going to add more, add all.

I am with micky. plus, everyone is already inthe tournament that makes their conference tournament.

Do away with conference tournaments and we can say goodbye to getting more than one bid ever again.

But then at least the team getting the bid would be the team that really earned it.

The Indiana high school tournament was never more exciting to every Hoosier than when every high school in the State was involved. It would work the same way for the NCAA, i.e. 64 sectionals involving teams in your geographical region (regardless of conference), then the regionals, once again based solely on geography to get the field down to the Sweet 16, then the semi-finals, again based solely on geography, to get down to the Final Four. NO seeding at any level. Random drawing from the squirrel cage at every level as to who plays whom.

Now that I like. But the problem is the seedings guarantee the rich get richer. Since your league gets compensated well for each victory in the tournament, if the haves are always seeded against the have nots in the early rounds, where do you think the money ends up going. The mid majors seldom have a chance to win a game when they're put up against a Kentucky, UConn, Duke or such in the first round. I love the blind draw instead of seedings. Probably will never happen, but it's a great idea

I hate to have to agree with Jim, but I do on this one. Even when the Arkansas Activities Association was holding the "Overall State Basketball Tournament", it was really exciting to see a small school win the overall as they did on occasion. Not often, but it did happen occasionally. I like this idea. Every time I watch Hoosiers, I remember seeing those games.

Did Desha Central with the Jones brothers ever win the Overall?

I remember the Jones boys playing at Desha Central. The overall tournament was played from 1972-1992. I believe Desha last won their classification in 1969, therefore they never played in the overall. Parkdale was the smallest school from the smallest classification to win the overall. I believe they beat Pine Bluff that year, so that was something like the story in Hoosiers from the Hoosiers movie.

Well, I think it is safe to say that if Desha had someone who could get them the ball, they would have dominated. 6-11 and 6-8, both later pros.
