Jordan Lynch believes he can play quarterback in the NFL and he’ll get the chance to state his case in a private workout with his hometown team later this month.
The former Northern Illinois quarterback told CBSChicago.com Wednesday that he has a workout scheduled with the Bears April 18 and it’s “strictly for quarterback,” he said.
Lynch threw for 6,209 yards and 51 touchdowns during his NIU career, starting every game his last two seasons. But the quarterback also ran for 4,343 yards and 48 touchdowns, which is why many believe he could play running back at the next level.

Lynch went to the NFL Combine as a quarterback, but also went through some running back drills. At his Pro Day last month, scouts and coaches asked him to do some defensive back drills.
“I heard a lot of positive feedback at defensive back. A lot of teams said I looked like a natural doing it,” Lynch said in an interview Wednesday.
So far through the pre-draft process, the 2013 Heisman Trophy finalist has received a lot of polarizing feedback from NFL teams.
“Some teams are looking for that change of pace quarterback, go in there and run the option and just give defenses a different look,” Lynch said. “There are definitely teams that love my ability and love my athleticism to play safety or running back or even slot receiver. It’s kind of 50-50 with the teams that like me at quarterback and the teams that like me at running back.”
Based on what Lynch said, it looks like the Bears are evaluating him at quarterback, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they work him out at other positions too.
Of course, the workout certainly doesn’t mean the Bears are going to draft Lynch, so consider it either an expression of interest or a really good bluff.

Bet he plays safety in the NFL..and would start in 2 years
I thought he could be good playing a Wes Welker type role.
Running back/receiver used for short to medium length pass plays.
I wonder if he's ever tried returning kicks.
I think he could be the next Danny Woodhead.

That's my bet too.

When comparing the two in size I was surprised to find that while similar in weight, Woodhead is only 5'8".
Jordan Lynch will be successful in whatever he does. He has the drive, determination, great work ethic, and that chip on his shoulder. He is also a classy and nice guy.
Did Danny Woodhead play QB in college?

I don't think so. He is only 5'6, so I'd be surprised if he did. Julian Edelman played QB in college though.
Punter, punter, punter...

Woodhead played RB in college.

Then again, so did Lynch most of the time.

Wood head runs a 4.3-4.4

He's also listed at 200 lbs, not 217 like Lynch is.
Lynch isn't going to make the NFL.

Get drafted? possibly
Invited to a training camp? definitely

But he's not going to stick. Too small, slow and/or inexperienced for other positions. I know there's going to be pitchforks out for me because I said that but you won't change my mind and I'm not trying to change yours. We'll see soon enough. We can bump this thread later to see who's right.

Generally speaking that may be true but there are tons of cases of guys running bad 40 times or switching positions and being extremely successful in the NFL. I don't think he's going to be starting many games or seeing much of the field, and I don't know if he'll even make an active roster, but ruling it out completely is kind of ridiculous.
The guys who switch from QB are usually fast enough to translate to WR, Lynch is not.

I don't see the precedent of a player like Lynch doing it. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone. Maybe there is someone who did it, but if so the list is extremely short. There are really long odds to overcome.

It has nothing to do about his 40 time, he's just not good enough for his limited skills to translate somewhere else.
Lynch would be successful doing anything in the NFL if given the chance.

As a prediction, I can accept that. It's difficult to make it in the NFL at any position.

I still think he has an outside shot someday to play QB, I know Wilson is much much much faster than Lynch, but Wilson's success gives Lynch a tiny ray of hope imo.
I do think Lynch is faster than his 40 time would imply.
