And working under the assumption that there will be no split, how poplular would the channel be? I am sure it would be on in WV, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and Central NY. However would it be on in NYC, Washinton DC or Chicago? Would we have the demand problems that the MWC is going through?

By the time a Big East TV Network is ready to go on the air, the Big Ten TV Network will have already set a precedent for such channels. The problem with the MWC is that they are not the league to pioneer such an endeavor. They simply do not have the popularity or pull to get this done. As I said on another thread, they should have left their games on CSTV this season while working behind the scenes to get their station going for next year. A future Big East TV Network will not have similar problems because our leaders are cautious and will follow the lead of the Big Ten instead of impulsively trying to be innovators and getting in over their heads the way the MWC has done.
I think there would be some demand problems, specifically in some of the basketball only markets, like Chicago and Milwaukee where the Big Ten in football rules.

I think a BETV channel would work throughout NY, including NYC, most of PA, southern OH-northern KY, and maybe in an outer market like Boston where there is probably still enough of a Big East following. After that, I think it would be tough sledding and as much as Tranghese gets grief about the past, he was right at this juncture to let ESPN regional have the football inventory and allow regional networks like Sportsnet NY, MSG, MASN and others go through ESPN Regional to pick up extra Big East games.

I would be pretty sure that a BE network would be shown in NYC. BE basketball reigns supreme in that market. BE fb may not be as popular, but when SU is winning, they get a pretty good amount of eyeballs in NYC. Now that Rutgers is winning, that would help the cause even more.
If there is not a high chance of success the BE will never start their own channel. There's a hugh difference between the BE administration and the MWC administration.

The BE members know they need to work hard and make improvements to make the conference a viable BCS league. They know that the public have been reaming the Big East and now is a critical time to strap down and prove them wrong. They understand where they stand in the college football landscape which allows them to make the right decisions for goals and improvements.

The MWC members on the other hand think they're better than the Big East, will definitely get a BCS bid and is as popular as the Pac 10. They ignore critizism and think they're the next coming. They have absolutely no clue where they are in the college football landscape (Which is way behind the Big East and barely ahead if even ahead of the CUSA). So this makes them do stuff that they have no ability to do hence causing them to fail and heading toward another airport meeting. They're like kids trying to take Calculus when they can't even comprehend Algebra. All thats gonna do is make them fail Calculus and lower their GPA.

The Big East, like every other conference and channel distribution company, is gonna see what happens with B10 network. This is the true test. A powerful BCS conference with strong National interest, not some regional mid-major conference. Only when the B10 channel proves this will be viable will other conferences jump in the pool. It is also when the channel distribution companies finally will be comfortable with taking chances with these channels.
So you guys think it would also be a go in Philly and DC? I don't know about Louisville right away...not sure the BE game of the week is on yet in Louisville

It is.
^^^ that's great news....a stand corrected
All this talk is premature. With the exposure the BEast is getting with ESPN, I don't think this is the time to talk about this. Let ESPN be the BEast TV network and it will all work out the way it should.

Bit, I'm sorry pal, but I can't see ESPN being our network after the way we still get bashed by their commentators. I think we need a promotion of the conference not someone saying how we don't deserve to have a BCS bid.

Its too late, ESPN is the network for the next seven years. Can't go back on the contracts the conference signed.

As for Jackson's question, I think Philly would be more doable than DC since there is the South Jersey base to the metro Philly area, while DC to my recollection is prime University of Maryland territory.
