Every baseball fan has heard the story about how New York Yankee first baseman Wally Pipp had a headache one day, and never played first base for the Yankees again, I don't know that I've ever seen a picture of him before I discovered this one. Anyone have any clues why he never got back in the lineup again?

Former Yankee first baseman Wally Pipp showing Cardinal star Stan Musial the first basemen's mitt that he used in the 1923 World Series playing for the New York Yankees. Pipp dropped by the Cardinals spring training camp in St. Petersburg, FL on March 5, 1959 to watch workouts and brought the mitt along to show the players.

Wonder if the Trojans were using gloves like that when they made 15 errors in the three game series at Monroe.

We didn't use gloves when I played. We just folded up paper sacks and used them to cushion the shock.04-cheers

You must have played before Wally Pipp. Back in Pipp's day, they didn't use much of what you would call a glove either.
