$1 million gift to help fund new turf at NMSU’s Aggie Memorial Stadium

Quote:A $1 million donation from businessman Stan Fulton will help New Mexico State University fund installation of a new, synthetic turf at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The new turf is expected to improve player development, help with player recruitment and increase community accessibility to the stadium.

“Stan Fulton continues to be one of the university’s greatest supporters,” said NMSU President Garrey Carruthers. “From faculty chairs to academic buildings to university athletics, his support continues to help in moving the university forward.”

NMSU head football coach Doug Martin said the new, synthetic turf will help the team train year-round and boost recruiting efforts.

“There are three areas in which I feel the field turf will really impact our football program,” Martin said. “The first is on player development. The turf will give us a surface that we can train on year-round and especially during the off-season, where we don’t have to worry about tearing up the grass inside the stadium.

Also NMSU received a donation back in February for much needed improvements to our weight room. Also in the works is to get funding for something being described as "athletic-entertainment". What that is and which sport that is for I have no idea.
Is the turf going to be crimson?
Will that leave Georgia Southern as the only stadium with real grass in the SunBelt?

THat has been kicked around on Aggie Message boards. I believe it is going to be green, with the end zones crimson.

A NMSU version of what Wyoming did would be pretty cool.

I think the NCAA passed a by-law stating that all new turf must be green; could be wrong but I think I remeber seeing that somewhere.

Thank god. That blue chit that they have over at BSU is awful. The red turf at Eastern Washington (FCS) is even worse to look at. Football fields are supposed to be green! I know NMSU will get it right.
I want to say central Missouri (?) Has a alternating purple and gray field

Yes, the NCAA has by-laws in place that state that the turf has to represent actual grass. The Boise State/Eastern Washington/Central Ark craziness was seen as an advantage to the home teams since they usually wore uniforms the same color as the turf.
My Favorite is the Black Hole in Oregon.

You couldnt put that color turf down anywhere in the Sun Belt. Can you imagine how hot that would get for a September game?

San Marcos is still north of 95 degrees for those early season games. I would hate to think what Black turf would do.
The black makes it look like the playing field burned.

So, is the new turf at Aggie Memorial Stadium going to be brown - or green?

Depends on whether it is rainy season or dormant season!
Fyi, This is the approved field design for Missouri State... That's one massive logo!
