As compared to the acres of free parking around Madison Square Garden? 03-lmfao

Yeah, and the grapes are sour, too, aren't they?
Smart move by the ACC. I'd rather go to MSG than Barclay's but this is a nice place to start. Also, I'm glad that the ACC was able to beat the B1G to the punch on this one. The Big Apple is clearly going to become a battleground area and getting in there first is obviously an advantage in that pursuit.

I think the next step for the ACC is to schedule some of those ND games in the NYC DMA - preferably Yankee Stadium. For example, Syracuse already has a presence there so play that up and play Syracuse/ND in Yankee Stadium.

The NYC DMA cares about college basketball a LOT more than it does college football but that is a nice place to start. If they can fit a football field in there, I'd also play BC/ND in Fenway Park and all the rest of it. Those games would look super cool on TV and that would be a positive for all involved.

ND and BC already have a game scheduled at Fenway Park in 2015.

ND and Syracuse have games already scheduled at MetLife Stadium in 2014 and 2016 (not Yankee Stadium, although ND played Army there in 2010 and wants to play there periodically in the future).

Not our fault...the one free parking lot was sold to Denny's, groundbreaking Fall 2016.

BTW, do you really think most will drive from out of town? The subway is the way to go.

Husky no one knows what you are talking about...we don't follow mid-major football programs.

As Big East opponents, Syracuse had a 3-6 record vs this mid-major program you speak of... 04-jawdrop Yikes...
do i sense a case of little man syndrome???
Just think someone's a little over-sensitive today...I'll be sure to add more emoticons the next time I post... 04-cheers
I like UConn and hope/trust that they'll land on their feet. If the ACC were to ever lose another school, you can bet that I'd place a call to Storrs to gauge their interest.

That said, if Florida State was the program the ACC lost, my first choice to replace them would be Central Florida. However, if it was a non-Florida based ACC school that left, UConn would likely be my top choice.

it does come down to the program the acc lost and how best to replace them. i do respect the heck outta uconn & wish them well. but with that being said i personally would rather see wvu, ucf or a notre dame/navy/gtown combo over uconn. the acc can't afford another northern school ==> nothing personal but it's as simple as that.
Well, I'm a Pitt fan so of course I'd rather add WVU than some of the other schools listed. That would give us an instant arch rival - something we have lacked since moving from the BE to the ACC. Hell, I wish that the B12 had taken Louisville over WVU and left us with the Hoopies. That would have been perfect but it was not to be.

As for UConn, I think the ACC would benefit from the addition of the Huskies. ACC basketball would DEFINITELY benefit from such an addition.

However, as I said earlier, if say Florida State were to leave for say the SEC; we would almost certainly replace them with another Florida based school. UCF seems to have the facilities and campus edge over USF which is why I favor the Knights. Hell, if we were to lose Florida State and say, Clemson, I wouldn't be shocked if we added UCF AND USF over UConn, Cincy, etc.

Still, any such moves are likely years away if they even happen at all. Also, Notre Dame is never joining this league as a full member. As a LONG TIME student of that program and its institutional mindset, trust me when I assure you that it is never, ever going to happen.

Understandable. UCONN also should have invested in its football program a long time ago. I do think we'd fit in nicely with the B1G's new footprint though... 02-13-banana
Yeah, I could see that for sure. I have been to many B1G and ACC campuses and I have been to Storrs as well and seen your campus and that tiny little arena with the weird ceiling. Hell, I got a photo in front of that Husky statue (Jonathan, I think?) with Omeka Okafor who literally just happened to be standing beside it when my wife and I walked by. That was truly bizarre but fortunate. I'm not a big autograph guy or photo guy but if you're right there anyway, what the hell, right?

BTW, he could not have been a better ambassador for your university. What a nice kid!

Anyway, you would fit in much better with the ACC than you would the B1G but if a B1G offer were to come along, you'd be insane not to seize on that opportunity.
Apparently the BE Boys were wrong...MSG does have some wiggle room to get out of the contract.

Quote:The Big East's contract with the Garden runs through 2026 but not unconditionally. Certain criteria need to be met or the Garden can walk away or change it, according to multiple sources. Both parties want the arrangement to be the huge success it has been for 31 years. But if it isn't, does this three-decade-long marriage start a long road toward divorce? Or could it sow the seeds for the Garden taking on the logistical nightmare of hosting two conference tourneys? Don't bet the Big East would like either of those scenarios.

While the conference maintains a contract with MSG through 2026, there are clauses contained within the deal that would allow either party an escape clause. Sources have confirmed to GoLocalProv that theAtlantic Coast Conference, with membership now including former Big East members Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Boston College, Miami, Virginia Tech and Louisville (for next season) has not only continued discussions with MSG about bringing the ACC Tournament to New York, but that an agreement may be imminent to actually bring the event here.

The possibility even exists for simultaneous, or back-to-back tournaments being held at MSG for both the Big East and ACC. Clearly, there are many details still to be worked out. But it may be that future Garden parties will include guests from Tobacco Road, and beyond.

My feeling is the B1G might us this as an opportunity to horn into NY. The B1G will throw the BE a bone for TV exposure. I could see ACC and B1G deuling in NYC but more likely they'll avoid head to head tourneys.

ESPN Alliance: Barclays/ACC/A-10
FOX Alliance: MSG/B1G/BE

Hmmm just a thought.

The one tricky thing about getting the Big East and Big Ten to cooperate is that there is so much direct overlap between their footprints. Georgetown is less than 10 miles away from UMd, and every other Big East school except Providence and St. Johns is in the same state as a Big Ten school. On the other hand, it would make for a lot of obvious, TV-friendly matchups in a Big East/Big Ten basketball series.

Geographic overlap can be bad or good, and certainly didn't stop the ACC/A-10 alliance. Consider:
