With all due respect to Mr. Sentell, what Bruce Pearl may or may not wish he had done is of no interest to me. The best player in the state landed at the best program in the state.

Isn't that how it generally works?
I borrowed that smaug.
Sentell just hasn't been able to get past his man crush on those teams.
UAB has had at least 4 Gatorade Players of the Year attempt to play at UAB in the last 8 years, 3 from Alabama.
I really miss 58-56. Here is his comment on sec.com, I mean al.com.

"Then why is your lead about Bruce Pearl and Auburn?

It's not all about the SEC, aka Florida and the Thirteen Midgets."

Love it.

No. That said, I am glad UAB landed him.
Quote:Jeff Sentell | jsentell@al.com1 Hour AgoDon't be so sensitive, gentlemen. I'd have thought UAB fans were secure enough in where the Blazers stand in the state hoops pecking order now to not get too worked up about a Bruce Pearl reference.

Pearl will need to sign guys like Lee to excel and he's the biggest college basketball story in the state this week. Take it easy. Its Friday.

This. I'm sorry fellas but y'all be getting all sensitive and stuff. And then 58-56 spelled "lead" incorrectly. Ha-larry-us!!! Sentell also said in the comments section that he expects UAB to be rolling off his tongue the next 2-3 years in the NCAA Tourney.

Nope. And UAB would be a perfect example of that.

I don't see it your way. Jeff Sentell is fixated on all things UAT and Auburn. Is it impossible for him to write an article about a UAB recruit without mentioning the SEC schools? I don't believe he can do it.

Odd. And how do they get to be the best programs without the best players?

Exactly who do you consider to be the best programs?
The ones who win most of the time.

Just an observation. Not sure about the sensitivity part.
Just read his articles. Hard not to see the bias.

Gotcha. Seems as if you are trying to be a smartazz but I'll go with it. Best player can be view in a broad spectrum. Example: best player talent-wise, best player to fit a style of play, etc.

In the context of the William Lee story, you don't clearly state if you are referring to UAB being the best program in this state or if you are generally speaking the best programs get the best players.

So I will give you Mike Anderson's teams who were generally the best in this state although talent wise that wasn't the case. I give you Butler who went to two Final Four with players that were perfect for the system they ran but individually wise wasn't the most sought after players on a national level.

I could go on with some of Gene's teams as well but I will stop. The ones that win most of the time (which again is a very broad statement) hasn't always won with the best players.

Of course he is a SEC homer. I would be sensitive about it (or maybe not) if the UAB beatwriter wrote this piece. But this guy, he's not worth a mention on this board IMO.
Sentell writing like an SEC homer is a dog bites Alpo story.

What's funny is him trying to deny it.
