"Come see Steve Shields last year as UALR Coach."

Big article in today's Democrat about Coach having only one year left on his contract.
Are you kidding? Is that really in the paper?

yep
Sorry, two more tickets down the toilet. I can't support the program any longer. This has gotten to be like putting a Band-Aide on a malignancy, instead of cutting it out. The basketball program at UALR is not much above an intramural basketball program. I not speaking of the abilities of the players, but the seriousness of the program. And, it's a hell of a lot more expensive. You could watch intramural games for free, and there were sometimes nearly as many watching some of the games as there are watching the Trojans. Well, maybe the Trojans had a few more than did some of the intramurals.

Wonder if the folks who stopped buying tickets will renew so they can root against Steve in person (No, LRTrojan, I'm not referring to you). Another down year and Steve will be gone.

Obviously, if we win the league next season Steve will be back. If everyone returns for GaSt next season they well be everyone's favorite. So what happens if we finish second and go something like 12-6 in conference? I don't have a clue. I would agree with LRTrojan that another "mediocre" season and Chris will make a change rather than extend Steve's contract. That seems reasonable. What I didn't think was reasonable was folks calling for Steve's head soon after two 20 win seasons and then an NCAA bid a couple of years later. Or folks arguing about firing Steve when he still had time left on his contract- I just never saw the point of that, unless you like banging your head against a wall.

My head is killing me! I should have thought to wear my helmet!04-cheers
Let me say why this is a good deal

1. It let's chris openly start looking
2. It let's Steve quietly start looking
3. It let's Steve have a run with a pretty good set of abc talent to prove something

I don't remember ever saying that. I may have said that it is what should be done, but don't recall ever saying that would happen. Don't have any confidence that it ever will, win or lose next year. Oh, if his contract has run out, and the team completely tanks, and I don't think that will happen with the talent there, he might pull the pin, but other than something like that happening, I'd be surprised if he does anything.

And, what's the problem with fans still wanting a change after a couple of twenty win seasons, which are sandwiched in between a couple of bad to mediocre seasons> My definition of a bad season is what Joe Foley had this year. He didn't win but 18 games, and finished third or fourth. Another year or two like that and he'll be mediocre.
