FAU fired Jarvis
USF fired Heath

Seems like John Pelphrey would have a great shot at one of those jobs if they are willing to wait until after the Final 4. Although I wonder if USF would hire another UAF cast-off.

That was two jobs ago. He's now a top assistant at a possible final four school with a good pedigree. I think he would be considered.04-cheers

Truthfully, his record at Arkansas was never as terrible as many thought. He was coaching their last NCAA team. He was hated though because of his inability to win on the road in the SEC...a historical problem at UAF.

I think part of his problem was the players he inherited. I think there were discipline problems and he just couldn't get it all handled. Might have been locker room friction between players. He did well in the SBC, and if you can coach, you can coach anywhere. It's about getting the players. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get one of the open jobs if he is interested. I would think that he could be a candidate for the Kentucky or Florida jobs if one of those coaches were to leave for whatever reason.04-cheers

Surely Shields should have a good shot at one of them. If he's as good as some of you say, he should be on a lot of peoples schools short list. If they read some of the fan clubs' posts on here, big Joe will be the new head coach before dark. Scotto says he's already got an employee I.D. card. Probably save at least five or six dollars right there.
Either FAU or USF is a hard job. Not going to draw very well because of the entertainment clutter. And USF is in a tough league.

Accept for one bad season, was his record any different than Anderson's. I doubt it.

And that one bad season, they went 12-1 in OOC Play with two Top 10 victories. Compared to Anderson's run this year which consisted entirely of Gonzaga, and included a 2-1 record against NIT teams.

Had the pigs not woken up in February and figured out how to win in Starkville, and caught UK when they were down, they would pretty much be no different. And I would argue that Pelphrey's SEC was harder than the one UAF faces now.

I don't keep up with the SEC, but judging by the number of SEC teams that usually make the NCAA tourney, and the number of SEC teams that got in this year(I believe it was 3), I'd say you may be correct in that statement.

With Middle gone we're going to dominate the SBC this year. Oh wait. We didn't, did we!04-cheers

Only 2, since you don't count play-in games.

I do if you win them. I just saw a graphic on TV last night that listed the SEC with three. It didn't say one was a play-in game.

Because they consider a play-in game to be the first round of the tournament. They consider a play-in team to be in the NCAA's. Tennessee is playing Iowa in the play-in game, either tomorrow night or Wednesday night. The winner will play UMass. It is more evidence that the committee didn't think much of the SEC- their 3rd best team gets a play-in game. Their second best team, Kentucky, is an 8 seed. Of course, Florida did get a one seed. Ya, the Florida team that we had tied at the half and were only down by about 4 with 15 minutes left.

I assume the NCAA named it the "play-in" game, I didn't. They didn't call it a first round game.

For several years it has been referred to as the first round. It has been confusing to me and others. Now when ULL plays Creighton it is referred to as the second round of the NCAA tournament.
