"I saw the Kansas game and thought the team had been doing better than I would expect based on their inherent strengths/weaknesses. Below average D and rebounding is not a championship receipe. When you rely on shooting as your primary strength you will predictibly struggle in many games. Defense and rebounding are more reliable night-in and out. That said they won more games than most teams that rely on shooting instead of D and rebounding. I wonder what the future holds for them and the program overall? I can see them having a worse year next year if they don't dramatically improve D and rebounding. They beat the odds based on what their strengths and weaknesses were this year."

Since you are dredging it up, here was my thoughts last year from the second or third page of this thread in response to some sunshine posted by MB&G-----speaking of whom-----anybody seen him around lately?---he sure is missing some good opportunities to call out people for being poor fans as he enjoys doing.

Next season should be even better! "Only" losing RP and Matt Smith. Freshman should all get better. Dre Applewhite eligible in 2nd half.

My Response:

I don't mean to hang a cloud on your silver lining but I am of the mind that it is always wise to give everything you do your very best shot today because although almost everybody takes tomorrow (and next year) for granted, the harsh reality is that NOBODY is ever promised a tomorrow.

Here is what we know:

1) The Rockets came into to tonight championship game for the first time since 2006 (and only the fourth time since they last won this game in 1980) with an excellent 27-5 record.

2) The Rockets lost the game primarily by getting absolutely killed on the boards (46-27) and by their inability to convert a key basket or get a key stop here and there when they most needed one to turn about the momentum in their favor (or hold the momentum on those few occasions tonight when it was it their favor).

3) Rian Pearson is one of only two Rocket seniors departing but lets not forget that he is also the only player on the team that IMO put together two solid nights in Cleveland.

4) The selection of Hawkins as COY looks a lot more reasonable tonight than it did last night

5) The Rockets will hang another banner in Savage but it won't say "NCAA". The Rockets are now starting their 35th year without a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Here is what we think we know:

1) In the absence of an NCAA appearance TK will most likely be around next year which is a good thing

2) UT should have a very talented team that will likely be expected to at least compete for a MAC title in the preseason chatter next year.

Here is what we don't know:

1) Will the Rockets be as injury free next year as they were this year? Injuries as part of the game and are more common than not, so they were lucky this year----as far as next year goes, who knows?

2) Will the Rockets make it back to the finals next year? Maybe, maybe not-----it took 8 years since their last appearance to get back to the championship game tonight but nobody knows when the next time will be because nothing is promised.

3) When will the Rockets finally make it back to the NCAA? Sometime after 2014 but nobody knows when (or even "if" with any certainty).

I see your point, and all things being equal I'd say you nailed it. And maybe you did.

But, personally, I don't think all things are equal.
Maybe I haven't been paying as much attention as I usually do but I'm excited for the MAC tourney. Anything can happen next week and I always have a blast in Cleveland!
I'm excited too. I can't remember ever doing as much MAC scoreboard watching as I have this season, out of genuine interest of who's winning and who's losing, and not just because of how it effects us. Been fun following the league this year. It'll be way more fun if we can find ourselves while everyone else's running around beating each other up!
