Ultimately that's the divide in this fan base. Many are okay with being good as long as kids graduate, stay out of trouble etc. This approach seems to be more in line with the program's history and appeals to those who are older.

The other side has seen that this program has the ability to be great and believes the program has superseded what history tells us it should be. That Memphis should no longer accept just good, clean results, but that because we have the ability to be great, anything less is unacceptable. Seems to be more of the younger crowd not all that concerned with much besides winning at the highest level.

I'm sure the realistic expectations for this program should fall somewhere in the middle, but I often find myself leaning towards wanting greatness at all costs. What about you?

Part of my frustration is the fact that there have been times this year when we've looked great...but more often, we've been much less than that. We've had some great wins this season, and we've had games where we looked out-classed in every aspect of the game.

I'm curious about expectations overall. Is it enough that we finally got those elusive Top25 wins this year? Is a Sweet16 appearance a must? I'd love to see us make a deep run in the tourny, but we're not there. If we go out in the first round this year, I'll be disappointed...but I'm not completely convinced Josh is a problem...although, my opinion of his motivational skills has slipped a lot this year.

Expectations are important to each of us. Some believe the scouting reports & see us with top-5 talent. It doesn't often actually work out that way. We're good...but our performance speaks loudly. We're a top 20-30 team. There aren't that many teams better than our Tigers...but to expect or demand Sweet16s or more...I don't believe it's realistic, at least not right now.

We need a big with some nasty...and we don't have that. Shaq and Austin get pushed all over the place. They're not garbage guys, rather both seem to be finesse players & when they get frustrated or out-muscled, they back down...Shaq more than Austin. We need a Dorsey/Coleman type defender/rebounder in the middle, and I believe this is the key to our lackluster defense. Austin may grow into that kind of player, who "owns" the paint. Shaq has the body, but not the chip on his shoulder.
I don't see Josh recruiting a guy like Joey Dorsey.

I won't disagree with that.
But if Josh is going to roll with finesse players he's got to recruit shooters. No one plays small ball with guys who can't shoot consistently well from perimeter. Either got to get tougher players (even if it means a few more trouble makers) or go get shooters.

Hard to be great on offense every night.

Great team play great defense every night.

AT ALL COSTS? No thanks..been there done that..watched the banners be removed.
Define at all costs since no coach is squeaky clean.
Tigers need to play better defense and everything else will take care of itself. They are flat out poor on defense.

Bingo. For whatever reason, under Josh, the Tigers have never played great defense. Too many players have had career nights against us, this year and in the past. And under Josh, I don't see it getting any better. Teams take on the personality of their coach. Nuff said.
This late in the year I don't think you'll see anything changing.
Josh is an "offense first" coach. After every loss, his reason typically is how we shot the ball, and last nights debacle was blamed on the kings going 10-38. Never mind UCONN shredded our defense and had countless open looks from 3.

Josh values offense.

Yes and no. Of course the offensive and defense schemes are pretty much set. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. The key here is motivation and mind set of the team, individual players and the coach.

Josh has great enthusiasm, but for some reason, it does not translate to the team or players. It looks as if they "tune him out". Josh needs to get tougher and hold these guys to accountability.
The problem is that he can't bench one of the seniors, because he has not developed the bench to come out and play. For example, he pulled Nichols last night after that bad pass that was intercepted, pulled Pellom and Big Dom, but allowed Dixon and CC to stay out there and jack up bricks all night.

We will need an update after the NBA draft from those who think we have top 5 talent.

I didn't know you knew every coach. This like saying every cop is crooked. If you know that no coach is squeaky clean, prove it or don't say dumb things.
The hard truth is other than Bartow, no coach at Memphis has reached the final 4 with out cheating.

We need a couple of big nasties. Dom might be able to bring that, but I'd look for a couple more. We need some swagger.

Depends on what you call cheating.

Rose's ACT accusation is a farce.

Kirk's 85 team got in trouble for doing what everyone was doing in the 80s.
