Georgetown, Butler, Villanova, St. John's, and one of Marq and Xavier will all go winless in the conference tourney.

Creighton and one of Marq and Xavier are the only two name teams that have a shot at winning a conference tourney game.

Obviously there is still the NCAA tourney to regain respect, this is only one tourney in year one of the media contract so there is plenty of time to right the ship. However, I can't imagine a realistic scenario that hurts Fox's position more. Personally, I was hoping for an 80's style made for TV brawl in MSG with conference hardware on the line.

Maybe next year...

Potential big "local interest" does not = marginal "national interest". The catholic 7 would have been better off sticking to the incoming AAC teams and keeping it the "Big East".

IMHO, IF the BIG EAST fails, it will be because of one part bad luck, about two parts FS1 not being readily accessible to casual viewers and about three parts apathy. It won't be because they traded games against UH, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, ECU, Navy, Memphis, UCF, USF, UCONN, UC and Temple for more games against each other. GU, VU, STJ, SH, Prov., are all great rivalries, and DePaul, Marquette, Creighton, and Butler all have the potential to create an interesting group of western rivals who have eastern ties. That said, each school will have to remain committed to winning. The can't free ride anymore. The BIG EAST has to approach basketball like it's the 1980's again.
The Tournament looks good on TV, its just too bad no one is seeing it on Fox Sports 1. The conference really needed the normality of MSG to lift its image back up on the national stage.

Saw this article this week... New York Times... it says the Big East still doesn't have offices in NYC... they're using space in their lawyers place until they officially set up an office.

IMO, the three C7 schools that were nationally relevant got that way because they were part of a Big East that included schools like UConn, Syracuse, West Virginia, Pitt, Notre Dame, Louisville and Cincinnati. Without them, I expect recruiting to suffer, and all the Creightons in the world won't keep the New Big East on a level ahead of the A-10 or MVC.
The worst case scenario would have been if Villanova and Creighton had cruised into the final without ever being challenged. Close games, upsets, buzzer beaters is what the tournament has always been about. Villanova beating Seton Hall by 20 would have been boring and expected. You wouldn't hear another word about it. Instead, I've already seen the replay of the final shot more times today than I've seen all other Big East highlights from this season combined. Villanova is still a lock for the NCAAs. But now, one of the bubble teams can force themselves in. If anything, Villanova losing is good for the conference.

I'd love for the A-10 to pass the Big East, but there's a LOT of junk at the bottom of the A-10. That being said, DePaul and Seton Hall ain't that great either.

Ok, so the anti Big East crowd has abandoned the "MSG doesn't want the Big East", since we're getting 15,000 per night for 1st round games, while the ACC literally pulled curtains in front of the upper deck in Greensboro, and they can't even keep the freakin lights on..!

You guys on this site are awesome... you're lost in an echo chamber and a bubble as you step through the looking glass... Every game at MSG has been down to the wire and the atmosphere has been fantastic. Seton Hall vs Butler outdrew the ACC...! Pitt and Wake played in front of mice and cockroaches today. 2026 baby...!
if i was MSG i would have delany and swofford on speed dial right now......
yes sure is the worse case scenario when the 2nd 3rd and 4th seeds are all still alive...03-banghead
maybe next year the 5th and 7th seeds can play in the championship game since they may have "historic" programs...01-wingedeagle

Maybe Swofford should worry about keeping the lights on. Everything he touches turns to sh!t. Mickey Mouse operation.

i'd say they are a pretty solid program.

Solid program, yes. Part of the reason that the C7 are nationally relevant? No. The Big East made its mark on the national scene in the early 1980s with Georgetown, St Johns, Syracuse, Villanova, Ewing, Mullin, Pearl Washington, etc. Pitt and Syracuse and UConn were a big part of that, but the others weren't in the league yet.

You want to say that we needed big public football schools to _stay_ relevant, you can argue that. Time will tell.

Here's a question... who do you keep on talking about the Big East and MSG...? Every freakin day...? You guys are like totally obsessed with us. Go down to Greensboro and have a good time. The BET is drawing at least twice as many fans as the ACCT.
Swofford is wetting himself over Rutgers basketball

Now, now, there's no call for that kind of rude suggestion.

c7 made their name along with su, pitt & co.

while i wouldn't say they made their name on cincy/ville those two programs along with quette certainly kept the show going when the BE needed more programs to step up to the plate.
