Ladies about to win their 4th in a row, leading ECU 74-59 with 4:01 left. Playing well at the right time. Freshmen playing well.

This may have been one of, if not the best, win of Karen Barefoot's career at ODU. ECU is 22-6. Definitley the best team they've beaten this season. Too bad the Ladies didn't win their earlier match up (they lost by 1 at ECU). A sweep would have been a nice way to usher ECU out of the CUSA door. Let's hope the Men can pull it off tomorrow night. The ECU Men have been pretty hot of late.
Glad to see the ladies seem to be back on the right path.
Shea Kelly with 32pts was unstoppable last night. That's another career high in the last three games. The team ball was also very good, with a lot of players contributing. I kept thinking we were going to blow this game open, but ECU kept it around 10 points. The Lady Monarchs are playing well and seem pretty healthy going into the CUSA tourney.
So is it ok to assume we no longer want to fire KB?

Maybe for some of us. They are peaking at the right time. A nice showing in the CUSA tournament would help people forget about the rough start to the season. At the end of the day, this team had too much talent to have missed out on the WNIT.
One of the things to consider is that our best interior players were freshmen, and the are playing very well lately. With the talent coming in next year, we should be much better.
I think the line-up changes have really helped. Shae is talented but sometimes appears out of control much like Gardner. Both in the line-up at the same time was sometimes chaos. Allison has settled then down a bit as she is less volatile. And Minor can provide more of a spark off the bench. Oigbokie will be a star very soon. Good calls by Karen.
The fans at Duke wanted to fire Coach K about 3 years into his Blue Devil career. Tom Butters(then AD) exercised some PATIENCE and was rewarded with the all-time winningest coach in men's D1 hoops. UNC fans hung Dean Smith in effigy in his 2nd year and yet he seemed to turn the program around. Maybe KB can get the time to put her stamp on this program. I hope so.

Having the opportunity to spend just a few minutes with Coach Barefoot, on different occasions, I can honestly say that her enthusiasm is contagious. She is a very good recruiter. The young women and the families of these young women she selects to recruit connect with her quickly and they see she is an emotional fireball for this program. 35 years ago the exposure for women's basketball on TV was non existent. Immaculata, Delta State, ODU and La Tech were pioneers before Tenn, UCLA, USC and a few other Power conference saw the potential. With that said ODU's road to recruit the top prospects has become much more difficult. Every major conference has recruiting services, AAU and HS Coaches that are associated with the P5 schools, and everyone is buying into the hype of the Power Conference agenda. Even to get a foot in the door and recruit 3 and 4 star players is a major accomplishment. But, Karen is making strides to break into that level, with her approach to recruiting. Her ambitious desire for ODU to get back to that level drives her all the time. The power conferences have a lock on TV exposure, the press and this has had an impact on the game, and has changed it forever.

I hope that we see improvement with our on the court results, but It is not because of lack of energy, dedication and a desire to be the best.

Glad to hear that someone who actually has knowledge of the women's program has good things to say about KB and her progress. Thanks.
For you "star" lovers, the LM's currently have three 4 star players on the roster, (Shae Kelly, GG Goodhope, and Jennie Simms). Jennie Simms is sitting out this season due to transferring from West Virginia but she will also be an impact player like Kelly so the future of the Lady Monarchs is bright indeed. With the class coming in next year, although not as highly rated as the 3 mentioned above, Karen will have "her players" and I have no doubt she'll continue to recruit quality players to the program. In the next 2-3 years, we'll definitely have the opportunity to see just what kind of coach she really is. The jury is still out but it does look promising.

Jennie Simms will contribute to next year's team, but not at the level you are expecting. She will help defensively and on the boards. Athletically she is very gifted but she has some work she needs to put in to balance out her game. I wouldn't expect her to come in and set the world on fire like Shae has.
Don't we have another transfer from Portland St. coming in next season as well? If I remember correctly, she was an all-conference freshman who put up some pretty solid numbers.

That's your opinion, I've got mine. I base my opinions on actually seeing these kids in person, either locally here in high school, summer pro-am, or team practices. Just like anything else, it will be seen when she actaully plays in an ODU uniform. Not saying you're wrong and I'm right, but just differing opinions...let's leave it that.

There are so many factors that play a part in a players on the court performance. The tangibles are athleticism, and natural talent. The intangible is the dedication, desire, and hard work. I also thing a factor that is so often overlooked is the teams chemistry with other players, coaches, staff and even the environment that they have at school with teachers, fellow classmates, friends and the work habits that they establish as a student. I understand that she is extremely happy to be at Old Dominion and feel that Jennie has the desire, talent and work habits to be an outstanding member of the Lady Monarchs. With the support of the University, family and friends I am sure that she will excel here at Old Dominion. There is always an adjustment period, some longer than others. I will go out on a limb and say she will fit in, and contribute very early next season.
